Role Summary Associate Director - Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in Dermatology, based in the Washington DC/Baltimore area. The MSL serves as a field-based medical resource, providing scientifically rigorous information to Healthcare Professionals, facilitating scientific exchange between Lilly medical teams and external experts, and supporting strategic decisions related to dermatology research and commercialization. The role requires continuous learning, strong communication, and the ability to travel and engage with customers in the field while maintaining compliant practices.

Responsibilities

Scientific knowledge: Maintain high-level technical expertise within the dermatology therapeutic area and provide unbiased, accurate, up-to-date medical information to customers.

Customer engagement: Prioritize customer-facing activities, use emotional intelligence and strategic thinking to deliver a positive experience, connect SEs/CEs with Lilly resources, and facilitate collaborative research and external opportunities.

Territory ownership: Develop and execute a strategic territory plan, prioritize core MSL activities, utilize territory analytics for customer identification and routing, and collaborate across Lilly field roles to coordinate experiences.

Strategic vision and leadership: Synthesize and communicate actionable clinical insights to internal teams, exercise good judgement, build internal networks, collaborate across functions, adapt to evolving business needs, and use innovative resources. Demonstrate Team Lilly Behaviors and work compliantly within governing requirements.

Qualifications

Required: Advanced degree in health sciences (e.g., PharmD, MD, PhD) with 2–3 years of relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience; OR Masters/Bachelor’s in health sciences (e.g., BSN, RPh, PA, NP) with 5+ years of relevant experience.

Required: Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis; Lilly will not sponsor work authorization or visas.

Required: Valid U.S. driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred:

Dermatology therapeutic area experience strongly preferred.

Field-based position requires up to 80% travel and up to 4–6 weekends per year.

Applicants should live near a transport hub (airport/train station).

Strong intellectual curiosity, learning agility, ability to work independently with multiple priorities, and excellent presentation/computer skills with literature identification.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficient use of field-based electronic tools.

Resilience in managing complex challenges; strong teamwork and emotional intelligence; ability to network effectively and service customer needs for complex information.

Experience in professional networking with mutually beneficial outcomes; familiarity with health systems, academic communities, medical research, and medical education processes.
