Role Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a scientific leader with deep computational biology and AI/ML expertise in Research Data Sciences at Gilead. This individual will drive high-value data science impact on target identification and therapeutic strategies from close collaboration with therapeutic area leaders in oncology and inflammation, playing a key role across multidisciplinary research teams to support Gilead’s expanding research programs and discovery capabilities. This is a site-based role in Foster City, CA. Responsibilities
Lead statistical and bioinformatics analysis of multi-omics datasets (transcriptomic, single cell sequencing, human genetics, high throughput screening, etc.) to support target discovery, pipeline programs and translational research Develop novel analysis of large omics and high dimensional data from internal, publicly available, commercial, and real-world datasets to enable target identification/assessment, drug combinations, understanding of MOA, disease mechanisms, biomarker identification, etc. Initiate and lead external collaborations with academic and industry partners to build data resources, drive technological innovations and deliver high impact results Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze and interpret complex large datasets, communicate findings and recommend follow-up actions Qualifications
A PhD in computational biology, computer science, data science, physical science, statistics, or a related field with a minimum of 10+ years of relevant work experience, including extensive experience leading computational biology and data science initiatives in the biopharma industry Extensive scientific and technical experience driving excellence and innovation with high standards for impactful deliverable and achievements. Lead team efforts to provide capabilities and deliver solutions, and collaborate cross-functionally to derive scientific insights and inform decisions from large-scale complex data Recognized domain expert in computational biology, data science areas and proactively assess cutting-edge technologies and evolutions in the relevant fields, including but not limited to single-cell and spatial omics, human genetics, functional genomics, etc. Applies in-depth knowledge to practical problems solving with result-driven mindset. Trusted partner and advisor for cross-functional teams on the necessary direction to achieve data science goals and objectives with impact across multiple functions. Proactively seeks out key business challenges and provides leadership advice and guidance on new solution development and execution. Develops and cultivates strong and enduring relationships with external thought leaders Identifies and recommends future-facing change opportunities that advance and accelerate cross-functional Research strategies and Gilead’s competitive advantage. A proactive and self-motivated individual with strong work ethic and scientific rigor, ability to work in a dynamic environment and able to manage multiple objectives in parallel and adapt to changing priorities Demonstrated track record and expertise in AI/ML method applications, e.g. deep neural networks, large language models (LLMs), GenAI and agentic framework, knowledge graphs, active learning, Bayesian optimization, etc. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that foster collaboration and teamwork. Strong publication track record in high impact peer-reviewed journals. Excellent scientific rigor and strategic thinking in proposing new ideas and presenting project rationales and milestones.
