Continuous Position Description DEFINITION:
Adjunct instructor in the Graphic Design Curriculum Program at Cape Fear Community College. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Receives general supervision from Program Director, Graphic Design Exercises no supervision. Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions) ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Essential Functions:
Provide effective instruction to students online and/or in the classroom by preparing for each learning experience, providing supplemental materials to enhance textbooks and lessons, and using effective evaluation methods to measure student performance. Teaching needs may be in one or more of the following areas:
Typography, Computer Graphics, Design Research, Branding, Print/Publication Design, Package Design, Interactivity, UX/UI, Portfolio Design Instructional modes available/offered may include face to face, online, or blended (combination of face to face/online). Other Important Functions:
Ensure a safe and productive teaching and working environment (classroom, lab, studio) by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards where applicable. Work with Program Director and other instructors to coordinate instruction and curriculum goals.
Maintain accurate records (such as attendance, grades, documentation for accreditation, etc.) and submit any corresponding reports according to departmental or college guidelines. Expectations for part-time instructors in the program also include as-needed responsibilities related to training and recruiting at college, state, and federal levels. Online instruction must adhere with ADA Compliance Regulations and RSI measures (Regular Substantive interactions) in course materials and delivery.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of:
Teaching techniques and procedures, including techniques using the internet and technology. Current trends, research, and development in the area of assignment. Principles of test development and administration. Ability To:
Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
Making observations Reading and writing Communicating with others Operating assigned equipment Handling varied tasks simultaneously
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:
Standing or sitting for extended periods of time Operating assigned equipment Handling varied tasks simultaneously Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds
Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of:
Making sound decisions Responding to questions Demonstrating intellectual capabilities
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Minimum Education/Training:
Candidates for this position must possess a Master's degree with at least 18 hours in a graphic design, digital art, or closely related field OR
candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in graphic design or closely related field with significant industry experience. Minimum Experience
: N/A Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills
: Experience as a generalist graphic designer with proven experience with the printing/publishing, advertising, packaging, or interactivity is preferred. Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite on the Mac platform.
