Position Summary:
Verify and maintain records on incoming hardware and lock shipments. May also assist in outgoing customer and vendor return shipments. Duties include receiving, unpacking, verifying, and recording incoming merchandise or material.
Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities Examine shipment contents and compare with records such as manifests, invoices, or orders to verify accuracy. Pack and unpack items to be stocked on shelves in stockrooms, warehouses, or storage yards. Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes. Confer or correspond with salesmen to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications. Deliver or route materials to departments. Store items in an orderly and accessible manner. Determine proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facilities. Cut new or duplicate keys. Repair and open locks; make keys; set up and maintain master key systems. Disassemble mechanical or electrical locking devices, and repair or replace worn tumblers, springs, and other parts, using hand tools. Keep records of company locks and keys. Have an understanding and work with master key systems. Insert new or repaired tumblers into locks to change combinations. Greet customers and answer customers' questions about merchandise and advise customers on stock merchandise selection. Answer telephones and emails to provide information and receive orders. Describe merchandise and explain use, operation, and care of merchandise to customers. Assist customers in picking up their packages from the lock shop. Take inventory and examine merchandise to identify items to be reordered or replenished. Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors. Examine and inspect stock items for wear or defects, reporting any damage to supervisors. Stock shelves, racks, cases, bins, and tables with new or transferred merchandise. Clean display cases, shelves, and aisles. Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Recommend, select, obtain, sell, and write up lock orders for customers. Assist salesmen with processing returned merchandise. Store Lock Shop and Home Center merchandise into locations to fill shelves, racks, tables, or customers' orders. Duties include maintaining appropriate stock inventory levels, performing cycle counting, and physical inventory. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required and assigned. Education/Experience
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience required. Experience in the hardware/lumber industry preferred No locksmith experience is required, will train Other Requirements
Provide assistance or direction to other Home Center, showroom, warehouse, or yard workers. Proficient in RF devices Minimum one year of retail customer service experience Proficient in using computers One year of building industry knowledge preferred Maintenance of regular attendance, work evenings and required Saturdays Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong customer service skills Mechanical aptitude and detail oriented, multitask efficiently and accurately Knowledge of clerical and distribution processes and procedures Ability to provide a great customer experience in a retail environment Verbal & Written Communication skills Willing to obtain other training if deemed necessary in performance of responsibilities and continuing education Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work is in a warehouse setting and may performed within a production environment, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, increased noise levels and dust. Employee must have clear, close vision for reading and computer/scan work. Must be able to safely squat/bend/climb, lift/carry up to 80lbs, push/pull up to 70 lbs., grasp, talk, hear, standing/walking for prolonged periods. Job may require reaching at or above shoulder level and below waist.
