We are looking for an experienced and scientifically credible Medical Communications Director to lead Rayner’s medical and scientific communications strategy in the United States. Reporting to the Marketing Director, Americas, this role is responsible for increasing Rayner’s Share of Scientific Voice (SoV) across the ophthalmic community by developing, coordinating, and amplifying high-quality peer-to-peer and evidence-based content. The role will work closely with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Clinical Research, and Global Marketing Communications teams to deliver scientific content across congress podiums, symposia, print and digital channels.

Key Responsibilities

Medical & Scientific Communications Strategy:

Define and execute Rayner’s US medical communications strategy.

Drive a consistent and compelling scientific narrative aligned with clinical evidence and global brand positioning.

Identify priority data sets, specific topics of interest, and communication opportunities to grow Share of Scientific Voice.

KOL & Peer-to-Peer Engagement:

Build and maintain strong relationships with leading US and international KOLs.

Identify, develop, and support speakers for congresses, symposia, advisory boards, and peer-to-peer programs.

Partner with KOLs to create high-quality educational content including podium presentations, interviews, podcasts, webinars, and video materials.

Content Development & Channel:

Lead the planning and delivery of scientific content across live and digital channels.

Major US ophthalmic congresses and satellite symposia.

Peer-to-Peer education programs; print and online scientific communications.

Digital channels such as webinars, podcasts, and video interviews.

Ensure all content is accurate, balanced, and compliant with regulatory and medical standards.

Leadership

Lead the planning and delivery of scientific content across live and digital channels, including major congresses, satellite symposia, and related activities.

Oversee abstract planning, podium presentations, and symposia content development.

Support speaker preparation, slide development, and rehearsal as required.

Clinical, Marketing & Global Collaboration

Work closely with Clinical Research teams to translate data into clear, compelling, and clinically relevant content.

Partner with Global Product Marketing to ensure alignment with global messaging, branding, and campaigns.

Support US Marketing and Sales teams with scientifically robust narratives and materials.

Congress Strategy & Scientific Presence: Lead US congress strategy from a medical communications perspective.

Qualifications Essential

Advanced degree in life sciences, business management, or a related field.

Significant experience in medical affairs or medical communications within ophthalmology or medical devices.

Proven experience working with KOLs and clinical data.

Strong understanding of scientific exchange, compliance, and industry codes.

Experience supporting congresses and scientific meetings.

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Desirable

Experience in ophthalmology, cataract or refractive surgery.

Experience creating or overseeing digital scientific content (video, podcasts, webinars).

Experience working in a global matrix organisation.

Prior leadership or line management experience.
