The Content Marketing and Communications Director develops and implements comprehensive content strategies to promote the YMCA’s mission and programs. Reporting to the Chief Administrative and Strategy Officer (CASO) and working with the Executive Director of Marketing, the director writes, produces, and edits content for digital, print, and broadcast platforms, supporting both internal and external communications. Responsibilities include public relations outreach, creating engaging materials for a variety of audiences, and ensuring consistent brand messaging across channels such as the website, social media, email, and press releases. As part of the marketing team, the director advances organizational goals through strategic content creation and storytelling. Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. Experience: 2-5 years in content creation, marketing, or communications, ideally for nonprofits or membership-based groups. Experience with content strategies or multi‑channel campaigns is valued. Communication Skills: Proficient writing and storytelling abilities; adaptable tone for varied audiences. Skilled at editing and proofreading. Digital & Technical Skills: Proficient with digital content tools, AI, social media, and basic graphic design platforms like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of SEO and web analytics is a plus. Organizational Skills: Effective project management and organization; able to handle multiple deadlines and coordinate input from various sources. Interpersonal Skills: Excellent collaboration; works well with diverse teams and stakeholders. Culturally competent and inclusive communicator. Mission Alignment: Commitment to YMCA mission, values, and community service. Embodies caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Certification: CPR, First Aid, AED required within 60 days of hire. Training: New Employee Orientation, Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, Sexual Harassment. Support the mission, vision, and goals of the YMCA. Promote character development and the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Participate in YMCA fundraising efforts, including Annual Impact, Capital, and United Way Campaigns. Follow mandated child abuse reporting requirements. Key Responsibilities
Content Strategy & Planning:
Develop and execute an annual content and editorial plan that supports YMCA marketing, program promotion, membership growth, and fundraising. Content Calendar Management:
Maintain a coordinated calendar for web, social media, email, and internal channels. Content Creation & Curation:
Create, edit, and curate engaging multi‑channel content that highlights member experiences and program successes. Multi‑Channel Communication:
Manage content on external and internal platforms, ensuring consistent messaging across all outlets. Brand Management & Consistency:
Enforce brand guidelines and review content for clarity and consistency. Collaboration & Content Aggregation:
Gather stories from departments and ensure content aligns with strategic goals. Community Engagement & Promotion:
Use content to engage the community and support membership and event promotion. Media Relations & Press Releases:
Prepare press releases and assist with media inquiries as required. Analytics & Continuous Improvement:
Track performance, analyze KPIs, and adjust strategies based on data. Additional Duties:
Stay updated on marketing trends and assist with other communications tasks. Insights
Set, manage, report, evaluate, and achieve analytics benchmarks and goals. Manage external partners/vendors to ensure alignment with project expectations. Report on digital metrics such as Google Analytics and AdWords. Translate consumer data into actionable insights. Maintain a professional work environment through integrity and teamwork.
