The Director of Property Accounting plays a key leadership role at Mills Properties, serving as a member of our Senior Leadership Team and a strategic partner to the business. This position oversees all property accounting and finance operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong financial support across our portfolio. The Director leads reporting, budgeting, and internal controls while directly managing and developing senior members of the accounting team. This role is ideal for a collaborative, detail-driven leader who enjoys building strong teams and driving financial excellence in a growing organization. The Director of Property Accounting reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is based at our Home Office in St. Louis, Missouri. Pay based on experience How you will be successful

Supervise, lead, and motivate members of the Accounting team Support Accounting Manager and Accounting System Manager with property accounting issues Serve as the main accounting contact for property refinancings, sales, acquisitions, and third party owners Serve as the main point of contact with the CPA firm, including investor buyouts and managing the K1 distribution process Develop and implement policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems to ensure accuracy, accountability, compliance and efficiency Assess accounting operations and internal controls and recommend and implement new processes Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures Maintain and/or establish cross-department processes, templates and reporting, as needed Ensure completeness and accuracy of investor accounts, including ownership changes and percentages within the accounting software for accurate distribution calculations. Work with Chief Investment Relations Office on property valuations and buyout questions Oversee payment multi fund quarterly distributions and compliance with preferred return schedules, where required Support strategic initiatives by translating financial data into actionable intelligence for executives Assist with property budget reviews and financial model reviews Maintain banking structure and compliance from initial account set up and assignment of roles within the banking software to adhere to separation of duties Strong financial acumen and thorough understanding of GAAP Strong analytical thinker with ability to anticipate and solve problems with sound judgment Proficient in Microsoft Excel Experience with Yardi and/or Real Page Software Proven ability to work through obstacles; solving problems with keen insight Strong project management and organizational skills to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously Effectively collaborate with various departments in the organization to proactively address potential issues Compelling communicator at all levels (including C-level) with the ability to convey ideas and concepts concisely through interpersonal, written, and verbal communication What you need

Minimum of bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, master’s degree and/or CPA a plus Minimum of 10 years accounting experience with minimum 5 years in management Multifamily experience a plus Strong financial acumen and a thorough understanding of GAAP Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with sound judgment Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Experience with Yardi and/or Real Page Software required Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects effectively Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly to all levels, including executive leadership Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, share ideas, and contribute to a positive team environment Consistent professionalism, integrity, and commitment to accuracy Exemplifies Mills Properties Core Values Mills Properties, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
