Summary
The Senior Retirement Consultant is responsible for overseeing the administration, compliance, and strategic management of retirement programs for a healthcare system with approximately 10,000 employees across multiple union and non-union groups. This role ensures accurate plan operations, regulatory compliance, and effective communication of retirement benefits, including legacy defined benefit (DB) plans, defined contribution (DC) plans, and supplemental retirement arrangements. Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day operations of retirement plans, including legacy DB plans, 403(b)/401(k) plans, and union-specific pension arrangements. Coordinate with third-party administrators, actuaries, and investment managers to ensure timely and accurate processing of contributions, distributions, and benefit calculations. Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS, DOL, and applicable state regulations. Monitor legislative and regulatory changes impacting retirement programs and recommend necessary adjustments. Maintain accurate plan documentation, Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs), and union-specific agreements. Serve as the subject matter expert for retirement benefits during union negotiations. Provide guidance on legacy plan provisions and transition strategies for closed or frozen plans. Respond to escalated employee inquiries and resolve complex retirement issues. Analyze plan performance, funding status, and cost implications for legacy DB plans. Support de-risking strategies, plan terminations, or conversions to DC plans where applicable. Collaborate with Finance and HR leadership on retirement plan budgeting and forecasting. Manage relationships with recordkeepers, actuaries, consultants, and investment advisors. Lead RFP processes for retirement plan services as needed. Develop and deliver retirement education programs for employees and union representatives. Create clear communication materials for plan changes, compliance updates, and retirement readiness initiatives. Maintains and Models the Organization�s values. Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance. Performs other duties as required. Education Skills Experience
Bachelor’s degree in HR, Finance, Accounting, or related field; advanced degree or professional certification (CEBS, ASPPA, CFA, or similar) preferred. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and negotiation abilities. Proficiency with retirement plan systems and Microsoft Excel. Working Conditions
