Position Overview
Fineline Steel is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented
Purchasing Agent
to join our team. The Purchasing Agent is responsible for overseeing the purchasing, inventory control, and supply chain management of structural and miscellaneous materials, including structural steel and related consumables, across multiple fabrication facilities.
This role ensures all procurement activities support project schedules, cost targets, and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and analytical skills, experience in procurement or materials management, and a collaborative approach to supporting production and fabrication operations. The Purchasing Agent will also lead procurement planning, vendor coordination, and the use of software systems such as
Tekla PowerFab
to streamline material traceability, inventory visibility, and project cost control.
Key Responsibilities
Operate Purchasing & Procurement Systems Manage the day-to-day purchasing of structural steel materials, miscellaneous metals, and fabrication consumables. This includes issuing purchase orders, monitoring order status, and ensuring materials are procured in accordance with Fineline Steel's project requirements, schedules, and budgets. Maintain working knowledge of procurement and inventory software, including Tekla PowerFab.
Inventory Control & Material Tracking Oversee inventory levels across multiple Fineline Steel fabrication facilities to ensure materials are available when needed while minimizing excess inventory. Track material usage, movement, and availability using Tekla PowerFab and related systems to maintain accurate records and material traceability.
Vendor Management & Supply Chain Coordination Work closely with approved vendors to coordinate pricing, lead times, delivery schedules, and quality requirements. Evaluate vendor performance and address issues related to delivery delays, material quality, or cost discrepancies to support uninterrupted production.
Procurement Planning & Cost Control Plan and prioritize procurement activities to align with production schedules and project milestones. Support project cost control efforts by monitoring material costs, identifying potential savings, and ensuring purchasing decisions align with established budgets and targets.
Collaboration & Support Collaborate with Project Management, Production, and Fabrication teams to understand material needs and production goals. Communicate material status and resolve procurement-related issues to support efficient workflow throughout Fineline Steel's fabrication operations.
System Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement Identify and resolve issues related to purchasing processes, inventory accuracy, or system data. Assist with the integration, optimization, and continuous improvement of procurement and inventory systems to improve visibility, accuracy, and efficiency.
Qualifications & Skills Experience in purchasing, procurement, or materials management preferred Knowledge of structural steel materials and fabrication processes is a plus Experience with Tekla PowerFab or similar material management systems preferred Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment Strong communication and problem-solving skills Commitment to safety, quality, and operational efficiency
