Director of Fleet Role Overview
The Fleet Director leads the strategy, performance, and lifecycle management of a 2,500-unit beverage distribution fleet across 17 facilities. This role ensures high operational uptime, compliance, and cost discipline while enabling sales and distribution teams to execute reliably every day. The Director is accountable for fleet maintenance execution, asset health, technician performance, vendor management, capital planning, and sustainability initiatives across the network.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities Lead three fleet managers and maintenance teams across 17 facilities. Manage 2,600 fleet assets worth $50MM, annual operating plan ($10MM+), and capital plan ($15MM). Ensure preventive maintenance (PM) compliance, DOT readiness, and equipment uptime targets. Oversee maintenance scheduling, shop workflow optimization, and mobile service strategies. Drive cost savings through warranty recovery, rebuild vs. replace analysis, and improved PM cycles. Manage multi-million-dollar fleet budget (labor, parts, fuel, rentals, tires). Lead vendor negotiations (OEMs, tire programs, telematics, leasing companies). Communicate fleet strategy and performance to senior leadership; lead quarterly business reviews. Support network optimization initiatives, including asset right-sizing, routing changes, and facility openings/closings. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business or Technical degree in Logistics/Supply Chain or equivalent work experience. Ten (10) years of warehouse, logistics, transportation, or production experience. Strategic thinker who understands the rhythm of beverage/DSD operations. Hands-on leader who balances field partnerships with strong process discipline. Comfortable navigating high-velocity operational environments and tight delivery windows. Data-driven decision maker who improves fleet reliability and reduces cost per mile. Ability to build technician pipelines and strengthen retention in a tight labor market. A valid driver's license is required. Must be able to travel up to 45% of the time. Compensation and Benefits
