Summary:
Reporting directly to the Vice President of External Affairs, the Director of Individual Giving has responsibility for managing long-term relationships and potential individual prospects determined to have the ability to make gifts at the 4-, 5-, and 6-figure level. The position will be responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts.
In addition, the Director of Individual Giving will partner with the fundraising consultant and the event consultant and other External Affairs staff in identifying current donor needs, and identifying and cultivating the next generation of donors, and also donors in neighborhoods outside of the Friendship Place core community of Upper Northwest DC.
The Director of Individual Giving will work collaboratively with and will give fundraising support to the Board, staff, volunteers, and donors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Fundraise to meet External Affairs individual core budget annual giving goals. Maintain an active portfolio of at least 150 individuals. Outline appropriate strategies to bring individuals to solicitation and closure. Develop and cultivate relationships with individuals. Conduct prospect/donor visits in person and online. Conduct phone, mail, and email contact. Create proposals to meet and exceed donor intentions. Perform research to identify and qualify new major gift prospects, while nurturing a pipeline of donors of all generations within our core community and beyond. Work closely with the President/ CEO, Vice President, External Affairs, Development Staff, Program Directors, Development Committee members, Board of Directors, and other volunteers, to generate new prospects. Lead in developing a cadre of key volunteers (Table Hosts) charged with bringing guests to the annual Friends and Neighbors Breakfast and to help meet fundraising goals. Lead in working with Gala Co-Chairs & Committee to meet goals and meet donor needs. Develop new strategies around planned giving to leverage existing loyal donors Develop and cultivate relationships with volunteers and staff to solicit help when needed, and as appropriate, for specific lead gift solicitations. Work with program staff to understand successes and challenges of Friendship Place programs to be able to explain them to funders. Participate in weekly External Affairs Team meetings and monthly Board Development Committee meetings, Program Committee meetings and webinars. Design and provide regular updates to the Vice-President of External Affairs on dollars raised and prospect pipeline/activities. Requirements
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree preferred 5-7 years' experience in non-profit major gift development. Proven track record of success in donor cultivation, solicitation and closing of 4-, 5-, and 6-figure gifts, meeting fundraising goals, achieving significant philanthropic revenue growth and an expanded constituency base, and developing relationships in diverse communities, including across generations. Ability to maintain confidentiality around donor data and information Ability to work flexible hours Focus on diversifying donors and the ability to speak to diverse communities Strong commitment to mission
Physical and Environmental Requirements
Work is primarily performed in a remote/hybrid environment. Frequent local travel to donor meetings, events, community engagements, and site visits. Occasional evening or weekend work is required to support donor events or organizational functions. May work in various environments during donor visits (offices, homes, event venues, community settings).
Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer, attending meetings, or performing administrative tasks. Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout facilities or event spaces. Must be able to independently travel to donor meetings and events; valid driver's license or reliable transportation required.
Occasional need to lift or carry materials such as donor packets, event supplies, or presentation equipment (typically up to 20 pounds).

Specific Requirements:
Positions requiring travel must have reliable access to personal transportation to fulfill job duties. The vehicle must meet all legal requirements, including valid registration and current auto insurance. Employees must provide the employer with current copies of their valid driver's license and proof of insurance. They must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets organizational or insurance carrier standards as a condition of employment. Additionally, employees are required to notify the employer and provide updated documentation within a legally appropriate timeframe if there are any changes to their driver's license status or insurance coverage.

Compensation:
The hiring pay range is between $125,000.00 and $137,000.00. The starting annual salary is based on a step system. A candidate's starting pay determination is made based on meeting the basic position requirements, and current completed education, credentials, and work experience .
