Primary Purpose

This is a multiple-location posting. The selected candidate may be based out of our Exelon Corporate Office locations in Philadelphia, PA, Baltimore, MD, Washington, DC, Chicago, IL or Oakbrook, IL. The Manager of External Communications is responsible for developing and executing external communications plans, deploying advanced media relations skills to promote company priorities, writing and coordinating content and materials, and serving as a company spokesperson. The Manager of External Communications also provides communications support to key members of Exelon's leadership team and other duties as assigned by the senior manager and director of the external communications team. The position will oversee media relations, integration of social media strategy, and public speaking/events for the executives. The position will assume a leadership role in priority campaigns and initiatives, crisis communications, and financial communications. Primary Duties

Ensure effective communication of corporate messages and content on a company-wide basis to employees. Direct interface with business unit communications managers to ensure consistency of messaging. Develop and coordinate HR communication plans and strategies to support business plans and objectives, as well as Exelon corporate objectives. Produce accurate, compelling, and editorially proficient written communications. Manage a variety of communication tasks to support leadership, including talking points, short presentations, and online messages. Consult and advise HR lead and staff on strategies for communicating HR policies, programs, and benefits. Manage vendor/agency relationships in the development of collateral, and the execution of projects. Provide strategic counsel and input in developing external communications plans for company priorities, executing advanced media relations skills, and serving as a company spokesperson. Act as the communications liaison for key company leaders and collaborate with communications counterparts at Exelon's utilities and priority projects. Develop accurate, compelling and editorially proficient written communications, including messaging, talking points, holding statements, scripts, social media content and other materials. Manage vendor and agency relationships. Position reports directly to the Manager of Employee Communications. Position activities are focused on internal communications and HR support, while participating in and supporting initiatives and projects developed by communications managers across all business units. Involves proactive communication planning and plan execution, significant writing, editing and development of communications materials, and a high level of coordination with other communication functions within Corporate Communications. Requires strong writing, editing and project management skills. High level of organization, strategic thinking, and presentation required. Required travel. Operates independently with little or no supervision.
