About the Role
The Company is seeking a Vice President of Underwriting for its Contract Surety Business Portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, growth, and profitability of the Contract Surety lines of business. This includes underwriting individual risks, initiating and overseeing new or existing surety product initiatives, and working with actuarial and IT teams on pricing models, loss picks, and system enhancements. The role also involves business management, portfolio performance reporting, and maintaining strong relationships with professional surety agents and brokers. The VP will be a key player in the company's distribution network, actively marketing and negotiating with agents and brokers, and will be expected to travel periodically for this purpose.
Applicants must have a minimum of 10 years' of experience in Contract Surety underwriting with a surety company, a Bachelor's degree in a related field, and a proven track record in leading and building a surety book of business. The role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, who is proficient in Microsoft Office and has the ability to interpret financial data. The VP will be expected to monitor market conditions, regulatory changes, and business profitability, and to work closely with the divisional President on all aspects of the business. Technical knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment are essential.
