
Excess Casualty Wholesale Account Manager

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Chicago, IL; Scottsdale, AZ; Frisco, TX; Greenwood Village, CO; Morristown, NJ; New York, NY) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Responsibilities
Renewal analysis, loss analysis, and preparation of the entire account for renewal quotes
Prepare and issue binders, policies, endorsements, and follow up for missing subjectivities
Support renewal prep with some rating analysis and contribute to underwriting thought processes
Review and analyze endorsement requests, escalate issues as required, and process endorsements
Complete underlying policy analysis on each Excess policy and send for underwriting review (terms and conditions, exposures, general information, aggregates, etc.)
Serve as a point of contact for brokers and provide optimal customer service on behalf of the company
Maintain careful adherence to compliance standards and meticulous upkeep of account files and underwriting documentation
Participate in projects as needed
Main systems Outlook, Ascend, Image Right, Policy Decisions, and web-based vendors. Genius knowledge is a plus but not required.
Agency Management & Client Relations
Act as a critical partner to underwriting teams within the Middle Market Commercial organization. Focus on service experience and book of business management with retention, profitability, and growth metrics, and serve as a key contact for agents and brokers within the assigned territory. Maintain strong knowledge of C/P commercial lines to contribute to overall success.
Own the overall service experience, facilitate collaboration with functional experts, and deliver a differentiated agency service experience; strengthen agency CSR relationships.
Build and maintain relationships with key agency contacts and decision makers through regular interaction on new account marketing, renewal retention, quoting, and service delivery.
Accompany underwriters and sales staff on marketing visits (target: 3 per year) to establish working relationships.
Prepare submissions for rating and act as the gatekeeper between the agent, underwriter, and the Operations Service Center.
Underwriting Support
Perform initial prequalification on all new account submissions, summarize findings, and recommend whether to pursue or decline.
Lead pre-qualification meetings with underwriters and provide recommendations on new and renewal accounts.
Work independently to maintain timeliness of information in underwriting files.
Negotiate effectively in tough situations with internal and external groups; seek win/win concessions for agents and the company.
Support sales efforts through understanding Middle Market strategies and the makeup of the assigned book of business and agency territory.
Use strong information gathering and diagnostic skills to solve problems.
Workflow distribution
Coordinate activities for all supporting tasks (rating, agent/broker information, risk engineering, etc.) on new business submissions and renewal accounts.
Prioritize territory workload based on service requirements and customer needs.
Monitor work performance to meet quality objectives and service commitments.
Facilitate routing of tasks and work between agents, underwriters, service teams, and the home office team.
Project / Backup support
Back up other Account Managers as needed and route information to/from underwriting teams when the local underwriter is unavailable.
May support various projects as determined by Operations and/or underwriting staff.
Qualifications
Experience as a Commercial Insurance Account Manager (or related) at a carrier or brokerage required
Knowledge of Commercial Excess Liability, Commercial Primary General Liability, Workers Compensation, and Auto
Excess & Surplus experience is a plus
College degree preferred
Strong customer service orientation and relationship-building skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Strong technical ability
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Professional demeanor
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of ImageRight and other insurance platforms also desired
Additional requirements For full-time, occasional, part-time, or remote positions: high-speed broadband internet is required. Details include:
DSL, wireless, Wi‑Fi, hotspot, fiber without a modem, and satellite are not recommended or supported
Internet provider modem/router/gateway must be hardwired to the Hartford-issued computer with an ethernet cable
Minimum speeds of 5 Mbps upload / 30 Mbps download
Compensation The listed annual base pay range is based on external market analysis. Actual base pay may vary and be above or below the range based on performance, proficiency, and demonstrated competencies. The base pay is one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package, which may include bonuses, incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$59,200 - $88,800
