$21.26 - $27.14 APPROXIMATE HOURLY Extra help positions are hourly employees that may work up to 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). Benefits are not included. ABOUT SHASTA COUNTY Shasta County offers a residential setting with urban conveniences, natural beauty, and quality of life. The County provides services to residents and supports local education and recreation. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Treasurer-Tax Collector-Public Administrator’s office collects property and other tax revenue for County government, County school districts, and various special districts. It manages the County's investment program to maximize interest income and cash flow. The Treasurer-Tax Collector also acts as Public Administrator for estates of deceased persons without a qualified administrator. ABOUT THE POSITION Property Tax Specialist I:

Under close supervision, to learn to perform a variety of specialized, detailed clerical procedures and manual labor duties related to the operations of the Treasurer-Tax Collector; learn, interpret, and implement statutory regulations and policy; perform related work as required. Property Tax Specialist II:

Under general supervision, to perform a variety of more complex clerical duties; assist in training entry-level staff; interpret and implement statutory regulations and policy; perform related work as required. Property Tax Specialist III:

Under minimum supervision, to perform the most complex or uniquely important clerical and support duties; work in a lead capacity; assist in training staff; interpret and implement statutory regulations and policy; perform related work as required. IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will have at least six months experience within the last five years in accurate cash handling, working with increasingly complex regulation and policy while upholding integrity and security protocols; provide quality customer service; problem solve; willingness to learn and grow within duties. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Property Tax Specialist I:

Entry-level class learning routine tax collection functions and procedures, with increasing complexity over time. Property Tax Specialist II:

Journey-level classification with broader responsibilities and independence; able to review and interpret current laws and policies. Property Tax Specialist III:

Advanced journey level; lead duties; may supervise staff and handle complex projects; interprets laws and policies and may lead delinquent tax sales preparation. Duties (illustrative):

Property Tax Specialist I:

Learn and perform less complex financial and statistical record keeping related to tax collection; assist the public; balance cash; prepare refunds; process payments; maintain confidential records; assist in delinquent tax sales; file and organize documents. Property Tax Specialist II:

Perform more complex duties, direct contact with the public, research, prepares roll changes, processes impound accounts, handles refunds, reviews trust records, and prepares reports; train less complex duties to staff. Property Tax Specialist III:

Perform the most complex duties; lead staff; oversee roll changes, liens, and releases; prepare advanced reports; manage trust activity; assist in delinquent property tax sales; handle complex data entry and processing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS It is the responsibility of applicants to identify in their application materials how they meet the minimum qualifications listed below. Property Tax Specialist I: One (1) year of general clerical experience. Property Tax Specialist II: One (1) year of experience performing property tax collection work equivalent to a Property Tax Specialist I with Shasta County.
