Recreation Specialist

Under direct supervision, facilitate recreation programs for a regional center. Plan, implement and oversee recreational and leisure activities and/or programs to meet the needs, desires and abilities of residents. Ensure alternate programs and weekend schedules are identified for residents, including during hazardous weather, weekends, days, and special circumstances. Ensure alternate programs are implemented within the residence of the consumers. Plan and coordinate on/off campus outings; escort or transport consumers to and from recreation areas on-campus and off-campus. Requisition and maintain appropriate supplies and equipment; provide decorations for events. Provide direct hands-on individual care to all consumers as needed; follow sound professional techniques according to agency guidelines, rules and regulations; participate in training and provide guidance to consumers in the development of activities of daily living skills. Monitor and transport consumers to and from programs, activities and off-campus appointments/trips; ensure the health and safety of each consumer while assigned to a residential building. May be required to stay over or work an additional shift to maintain proper staffing levels for safety of consumers. Perform additional duties as required. This position is eligible for up to $3.50/hour shift differential for applicable shifts! Location
The position for this posting is located at Whitten Regional Center, an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF-IID) of BHDD-OIDD located in Clinton, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Qualifications
High school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation or a related field may be substituted for work experience. Knowledge of various types of recreational activities; ability to plan, organize and oversee recreational activities. Knowledge of recreational therapy principles, techniques and methods. Ability to motivate and sustain the interest of residents; ability to instruct residents in various recreational activities; ability to communicate effectively. Employment Contingency
Employment is contingent upon receipt of required pre-employment screenings: medical screening including a drug screen; background checks (including fingerprinting); Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry screening; List of Excluded Individuals/Entities screening; driving record check; and verification of educational credentials. If this position requires working directly with consumers, tuberculosis testing must be completed prior to beginning employment.
