City of Aurora is seeking candidates for a Summer (Youth) Camp Director role. The position is VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), working fewer than 29 hours per week with no medical benefits. Lead the summer camp team and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for youth; manage small teams and program budgets Plan and supervise field trips, crafts, games, and activities; work with staff to implement programs Organize staff meetings, mandatory trainings, and Youth Services events required by the program Direct program activities and supervise group activities; coordinate with parents on youth profiles, program communication, and volunteer needs Collaborate with Program Leaders to implement planned programs including games, crafts, field trips, and swimming Position Overview

Camp/Activity Director is responsible for implementing planned programs including school break camps, summer camp, We Are Aurora Youth, and Friday evening programs. The Director will lead 1 to 5 staff to implement programs. Availability is based on program dates with scheduling on a first-come, first-served basis. Minimum Qualifications & Working Conditions

Educational/Experience requirements: An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Youth Program Director must meet one of the following qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in recreation, outdoor education, art education, elementary or early childhood education, human services, or a directly related field Two years of college training and six (6) months (910 hours) of verifiable full-time or equivalent experience in the care and supervision of four or more children; or three years (5460 hours) of verifiable experience and one of the following qualifications: A) Complete six semester hours or nine quarter hours; or B) 40 clock hours of training in school-age child care and department-approved courses in injury prevention and playground safety Preferred Qualifications: None Knowledge: Youth development, outdoor education, nutrition, and recreation programming for elementary to middle school students; familiarity with School Age Licensed Day Camp Programs regulations. Skills: Experience working with youth ages 6 to 14; program planning. Fluency in Spanish preferred but not required. Supervisory experience preferred but not required. Abilities: Establish and maintain effective working relationships; handle sensitive situations with tact; communicate effectively; supervise a diverse workforce; creatively solve problems and negotiate under pressure. Licenses & Certifications

Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license Required upon hire: First aid and CPR, Standard Precautions, Medical Administration Part 1 and Part 2, Child Abuse Reporting, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Immunization Course, Playground Safety, Injury Prevention, FEMA Multihazard Planning for Child Care Working Conditions

Essential Personnel: May be required to work during emergencies Physical Demands: Lift up to 30 pounds; mobility and frequent communication with staff and citizens Work Environment: Recreation facilities, outdoor parks, and adventure destinations Equipment Used: Standard office equipment and software; may require use of personal equipment Other information: The City of Aurora will implement furlough days in 2026.
