An exciting new opportunity has come up in the Maternity Department at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, Kent to cover secondment leave – giving you the chance to try a new role and to gain valuable experience.
The Band 7 labour ward co‑ordinator will primarily work on the Labour Ward and Triage, and will be responsible for clinical leadership and coordination of the busy level 3 unit. You will provide leadership to the Labour Ward team and be a role model in delivering excellent women‑centred, evidence‑based, quality care.

You will have the skills and experience to support the rest of the unit when required to ensure a coordinated approach to the service for women and their families. Leading the service into the future is a key requirement and you will work closely with the consultant midwife, obstetricians and the matron.
Main duties of the job
Provide effective leadership for all midwifery staff within their clinical area, maintaining clinical and professional competence and credibility. Utilise clinical sessions to role‑model standards of care and expected behaviour to measure agreed standards of midwifery practice, and enhance accessibility to patients, families and staff.
Actively support and empower all midwifery staff to develop and utilise clinical leadership skills, ensuring they are supported to undertake their role effectively in an autonomous and accountable manner.
Contribute to the implementation of the Trust Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery, utilising the "we care values".
Maintain a high standard of midwifery care through planning, implementing and evaluating the needs of all women to ensure safe, effective, and high‑quality care.
Communicate and participate with the multidisciplinary team to provide optimum care for women.
Collaborate with the Midwifery‑Led Unit and Postnatal ward co‑ordinators to ensure continuity of care for women and their families.
Support Maternity Triage and their implementation of BSOTS.

Person Specification Qualifications
Registered Midwife and eligible to practice.
Working at degree level with mentorship in practice.
Evidence of further study and development of professional and academic skills.
Leadership/Management course.
Clinical Skills
5 years post registration experience in a variety of acute settings.
Can demonstrate sound midwifery care and leadership.
Sound knowledge of recent Government and Professional documents with awareness of implication to service provisions.
Experience as Band 7 within an acute setting.
Some experience of budget management.
Knowledge of Health and Safety.
Have participated in audit and research programmes.
Governance
Clinical Governance.
Key issues and development in midwifery.
Personal/Professional attributes
Current understanding of issues facing the NHS both locally and nationally.
Able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the service.
Be aware of the trust visions, missions and values.
