Overview
Hampton Roads Academy seeks a full-time Performing & Fine Arts faculty member with expertise in
technical theater and digital media . This role is ideal for an educator-practitioner who values hands-on learning, collaboration, and mentorship in an independent school setting. The successful candidate will teach technical theater and digital media courses while supporting the technical production needs of theatrical performances and school-wide events. Teaching Responsibilities
Teach
Technical Theater , emphasizing scenic design, construction, lighting, sound, and stagecraft Integrate
set design and construction
into the technical theater curriculum Teach
fine arts courses in digital media , visual design, and creative technology Instruct students in industry-standard tools and workflows, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration Support differentiated learning and a student-centered classroom environment Production & Technical Responsibilities
Design, program, and operate
lighting and sound systems
for theatrical productions Oversee the
technical needs of the school’s auditorium , including: Graduations Performances/showcases Special events/guest speakers Collaborate with performing arts faculty, school leadership, and event coordinators to ensure smooth execution of events Maintain and organize technical equipment, tools, and workspaces Ensure safe practices and proper training for students using equipment Preferred Qualifications
BFA or MFA
in Design (Theater, Scenic, Lighting, Sound, or a related field) Demonstrated experience in scenic design and construction Proficiency in programming and operating
theatrical lighting and sound systems Fluency in
Adobe Creative Suite
(Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and related programs) Strong collaborative and communication skills Teaching experience in an independent school or educational theater setting Experience working with middle and/or upper school students Familiarity with flexible, interdisciplinary curriculum design Personal Qualities
