Introduction
Vault is HashiCorp's multi-cloud security platform. Its enterprise users are some of the world's largest finance, healthcare, and technology companies. Vault's core use cases are in Secrets Lifecycle Management, Encryption, and Access/Identity Management.
We design and build workflows to enable our customers to secure their applications and protect sensitive information. We focus on enabling platform teams and their customers (typically developers) to adopt and improve strong security practices. We do this with the user at heart and our 'beauty works better' principle in hand. We believe the design process can and should feel satisfying for stakeholders, continually improve with insights, and regularly deliver positive outcomes for our business.
Your role and responsibilities Vault is a complex product customers rely on to secure their most critical systems and workloads. If you love solving interesting, novel problems, this is a role you'll enjoy. Unlike more execution-focused roles, you will be a passionate designer who thrives in uncertainty and ambiguity.
Strategic Leadership
Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams to set priorities, goals, and roadmaps. Guide product innovations from early concepts to GA release, ensuring design aligns with business objectives.
End-to-End Ownership
Own the full design process for medium-to-large scoped projects. Develop a deep domain understanding of our products and the Jobs to Be Done (JTBDs) for our technical users.
Design Execution
Create seamless experiences by delivering research plans, user flows, mockups, and high-fidelity prototypes. Combine research and creativity to deliver practical, elegant solutions for complex security workflows.
Collaboration
Partner with engineers on feasibility, responsiveness, and component details. Work iteratively in a dynamic, globally distributed environment to act on high-priority roadmap initiatives.
Stakeholder Management
Work with internal and external stakeholders to determine and prioritize new features critical to the success of HashiCorp's largest enterprise customers.
Required technical and professional expertise
Proven experience designing for complex technical experiences, especially for enterprise IT, infrastructure, or security products.
Comfortable working across a distributed, global team and thriving in a remote-first environment.
Problem solver who takes ownership of your work, focuses on delivering impact, and values peer feedback to learn and grow.
Expertise in modern design tools (Figma, etc.) and a willingness to learn the key workflows involved in HashiCorp products (Terraform, Vault, Boundary, Consul).
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred technical and professional experience
Deep understanding of Identity & Access Management (IAM) including OIDC, SAML, LDAP, RBAC, and ABAC. Familiarity with Secrets Management lifecycles (rotation, dynamic secrets).
Experience designing for "SecOps" and "Platform Engineer" personas, balancing developer experience (DX) with security compliance.
Ability to utilize "Systems Thinking" to design scalable frameworks across a multi-product ecosystem. Proven track record of influencing product roadmaps by translating technical constraints into UX opportunities.
Experience mapping high-complexity user journeys to identify "edge cases" before they reach the engineering phase.
Comfort engaging in deep technical discussions with engineers regarding API structures, CLI patterns, and system architecture.
Skill in using qualitative research and quantitative telemetry to justify decisions; experience leading design workshops (journey mapping, service blueprints).
High bar for visual craft, utilizing and contributing back to enterprise-grade design systems.
