The Courier Journal , part of the USA TODAY Network, is seeking an assistant sports editor and newsroom leader with a proven ability to help us own a highly competitive and critical part of our coverage while helping elevate the overall trajectory of the Sports team. The Louisville area has high-profile coverage opportunities including national championship-caliber college basketball programs; SEC and ACC football; and the world-famous Kentucky Derby. Responsibilities

Drive real-time coverage across digital platforms and help develop reporters. Collaborate with reporters and editors to elevate work and connect stories with the community. Copy editing experience is a must; willingness to write as needed. Embrace working side-by-side with reporters to elevate their work and with editors to tell stories that engage and inform audiences in Louisville, the surrounding area, and the Commonwealth. Lead with passion, leadership, coaching, and strategic planning to support the team’s success. Expect regular evening work during events and coverage windows. Qualifications

Experience in leadership, coaching, and strategic planning for a newsroom. Copy editing experience required; willingness to write as needed. Ability to guide and develop reporters and produce compelling local sports coverage. Strong understanding that sports coverage goes beyond X’s and O’s and should educate and inform fans.
