WFTS, the ABC affiliate in Tampa, Florida, owned by The E.W. Scripps Company, is looking for its next Multimedia Journalist to serve as Weekend Evening Reporter & Manatee County MMJ. This unique position offers the best of both worlds: you'll work Saturday and Sunday evenings (2:30pm-11:30pm) as a General Assignment reporter paired with a nightside photojournalist starting your shift at our Tampa studios, then spend Monday through Wednesday covering your dedicated Manatee County beat during dayside hours. Your weekday coverage area includes the vibrant communities of Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Anna Maria Island, Palmetto, and Parrish. We strongly encourage our new MMJ to live within their weekday geographic beat to build deep community connections. Bilingual English / Spanish is preferred. WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Receive assignments or evaluate news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.

Gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interviews, observation, and research.

Organize material, determine angle or emphasis, and write stories according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.

Shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories.

Edit, or assist in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.

Appear on-air on TV in live and pre-recorded situations.

Give live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.

Work cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned.

Assist news producer in preparing newscast.

Assist online staff in preparing for multimedia stories.

Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred

Generally, 3+ years of experience in related field preferred

Bilingual English / Spanish preferred

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems

Videography and non-linear editing experience required

Knowledge of broadcast-quality camera equipment

Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems or similar equipment

Strong broadcast and AP-style writing skills

Proficient at posting content to various websites

Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits
