Instructional Designer – Faculty Salary:

$72,387 – $96,951 annually

Overview Merced College is seeking a creative and forward‑thinking full‑time, tenure‑track Instructional Designer faculty member to join the Innovation Center team. The role helps shape the future of teaching and learning at the institution by combining teaching, curriculum development, training, and innovation in instruction.

Responsibilities

Teach and design instructional design courses, workshops, and training programs.

Develop and implement effective online courses and instructional materials, including video tutorials, webinars, and course templates.

Consult with faculty and staff on course design, media integration, and technology use.

Provide training on Canvas LMS and other instructional technology tools.

Assist faculty with accessibility compliance for online and face‑to‑face courses.

Maintain and update best practices in instructional design and pedagogy.

Support institutional initiatives such as AI‑enhanced instruction, immersive learning, competency‑based education, and credit‑for‑prior‑learning assessment.

Participate in curriculum review, assessment, and professional development activities.

Collaborate on campus‑wide projects to elevate student success.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Instructional Design/Technology, Educational Technology, or a related discipline (experience may substitute for degree).

OR

equivalent experience.

Experience in instructional design, educational technology, and online learning development.

Proficiency with learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.

Experience teaching online, hybrid, or in‑person courses.

Current knowledge of pedagogical and technical trends in online.

Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver instructional materials and training.

Commitment to culturally affirming DEIA and anti‑racism principles.

Preferred: experience in competency‑based education, immersive learning, and AI‑enhanced instruction.

Preferred Experience

Experience collaborating with administration, faculty, and staff on online course development.

Experience in technology‑mediated learning and support for institutional initiatives.

Experience developing teaching materials that incorporate evidence‑based practices.
