
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Editor responsible for reviewing, editing, and refining complex environmental engineering technical documentation. The ideal candidate will ensure editorial excellence, accuracy, clarity, consistency, and adherence to company and industry standards, notably the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) and U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) standards. This role emphasizes direct editorial responsibilities, quality assurance, and mentoring junior editorial staff.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Edit, proofread, and manage quality control for technical documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and clarity.
Apply expert-level knowledge of grammar, punctuation, syntax, and style guidelines, preferably Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) and U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) standards.
Collaborate closely with engineers and scientists, desktop publishers, project managers, and subject matter experts.
Provide high-quality edit and comments to technical documents.
Develop and manage editing schedules, review processes, and response coordination for client feedback.
Mentor, train, and assist in developing junior editing and writing staff.
Maintain rigorous version control and document management practices.
Ensure adherence to company branding and formatting standards, performing final document checks and formatting adjustments.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, or related field; advanced degrees preferred.
Minimum of 7 years of technical editing experience, preferably within professional services, government contracting, or technical consulting environments.
Demonstrated capability to edit a minimum of 10 pages per hour with high accuracy.
Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat Pro, and familiarity with Adobe InDesign.
Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with proven ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams.
Preferred Skills:
Ability to understand and adapt to client work instructions and preferences.
Experience with EPA style and communication guidelines is a plus.
Experience editing documents related to engineering, environmental, or government proposals.
Familiarity with document management systems and version control processes.
Proven ability to mentor and lead teams in complex editorial processes.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $95,000 to $115,0000 per year. Compensation depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
