Day Camp Director

The Day Camp Director provides input in the planning, organization, and supervision of age-appropriate activities and field trips for the summer day camp program. This position provides leadership and direction to the Day Camp Counselors, oversees daily camp operations, while ensuring a safe and engaging environment for all participants. The day Camp Director is expected to maintain a strong, yet clear communication with staff, participants, and parents. Position starts June 1st ends July 31st (Approx: 8 weeks, 4 days). Essential Functions: Plans activities for campers. Facilitates activities for campers. Plans arts and crafts projects for campers. Facilitates arts and crafts projects for campers. Plans outings for campers. Acts as chaperon while on outings. Supervises Day Camp Counselors in carrying out directives and assigned interaction with campers. Other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in recreation, education, child development, or related field preferred. Minimum of two years of experience working in a camp, recreational, or youth program environment required (experience with children aged 5-12 preferred). Prior supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred. Certifications: Valid NC Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement required. Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate. Special Requirements: Must be a minimum of 21 years of age. Physical Demands: This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing; ability to sit for extended periods while operating a motor vehicle; frequent standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word: hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. recreation center; pool area; visitor center; day trip facilities).
