The Director of Advocacy Marketing and Communications will work closely with the Vice President of Government Affairs to shape and execute innovative marketing and communication strategies that enhance awareness of and engagement with our advocacy, legislative, and policy objectives. This role reports to the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer and collaborates with the Government Affairs team to achieve significant outcomes that will positively transform veteran care for years to come.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as the primary communications and marketing advisor to the VP of Government Affairs, developing integrated strategies for advocacy priorities.
Lead an advocacy thought leadership strategy, bringing together policymakers and experts to address crucial issues.
Align advocacy communications with broader organizational goals by collaborating with senior leaders.
Build a high-performing team focused on advocacy marketing and communications, directing external agency partners to achieve measurable results.
Manage budget and resources for advocacy initiatives while using data insights to demonstrate ROI.
Establish strong relationships with media, influencers, and peer organizations to enhance WWP's visibility.
Ensure brand consistency across all communications, maintaining relevance and alignment with WWP’s mission.
Plan and leverage impactful events that highlight WWP’s advocacy priorities.
Represent WWP at key events and forums, which may occasionally require evening or weekend availability.
Stay updated on industry trends and policy developments to refine strategies continuously.
Participate in essential training and meetings as required by WWP.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Motivated, mission-driven leader with a passion for serving post-9/11 veterans.
Proven track record in influencing decision-makers and fostering positive outcomes via strategic marketing and communications.
Energetic self-starter who can think strategically and inspire a diverse team.
Strong executive presence, analytical skills, and sound judgment.
Capable of engaging with various political perspectives while staying mission-focused.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
In-depth knowledge of marketing and communications practices and tools.
Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to travel and work flexible hours as needed.
Commitment to high ethical standards in personal and business dealings.
Experience:
At least eight years in communications, public relations, journalism, or related fields.
A minimum of five years in advocacy, policy, or legislative affairs.
Five years in leadership roles.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, political science, or a related field. Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
Certifications:
Valid driver’s license is required.

The expected salary range for this position starts at $166,924 and can go up to $208,656 annually, depending on your qualifications and experience. This role may also be eligible for annual performance incentives.
