Cooley is excited to welcome an Intellectual Property Conflict Resolution Analyst to our Business Intake and Conflicts team. Position Summary:

As an Intellectual Property Conflict Resolution Analyst, you will play a crucial role in identifying, analyzing, and resolving IP conflict requests. You will utilize your judgment and deep understanding of business needs to ensure that incoming IP work and candidates are managed effectively. This position involves supporting the BIC IP Supervisor and conducting thorough research on the involved parties and relevant patent information. Position Responsibilities: Analyze and process conflict requests with a focus on IP-related matters, ensuring all firm engagements are ethically clear. Prepare database search terms and create comprehensive conflict reports for all involved parties, including high-volume searches. Manage new IP patent prosecution requests, concentrating on subject matter and technology issues. Conduct corporate research to confirm identities and investigate potential conflicts. Identify subject matter overlaps and review conflicts reports to flag existing and potential conflicts. Interpret database results and present findings to firm partners and attorneys. Draft well-organized descriptions of the conflicts landscape in line with professional conduct rules. Engage regularly with partners via email and phone to discuss potential issues and propose solutions. Provide updates to attorneys regarding conflict statuses on new matters. Maintain meticulous notes and documentation for each conflict request. Request waivers for matters needing consent and ensure all conflicts are resolved prior to engagement. Draft necessary conflict waivers and engagement letters. Advise attorneys on special circumstances surrounding complex requests. Collaborate with the BIC IP Supervisor and team on workflow and training initiatives for IP personnel. Participate proactively in internal training for continuous learning. Serve as a key contact for IP Services on legal and subject matter conflicts. Implement ethical screens as required. Stay informed about current legal trends and perform conflicts case law and ethics research. Provide conflicts training for secretarial staff and other professionals as needed. Undertake additional duties as assigned. Skills and Experience: Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, iManage, and other firm applications following orientation. Willingness to work overtime, including weekends when necessary. Proficiency in IntApp Open and Contract Express or similar platforms. Minimum 2 years of experience in conflicts and/or IP-related roles. Knowledge of legal ethical standards from the American Bar Association and California State Bar Association. General understanding of corporate law practices. Experience in legal and corporate research. Preferred: Degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or engineering. Experience in IP conflicts resolution. Paralegal Certificate or ethics course completion in a paralegal program. Previous experience as a paralegal or legal researcher in a law firm. Understanding of 37 C.F.R., MPEP, and foreign patent prosecution rules. Experience conducting legal research in a law firm environment. Cooley offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package, committed to fair employment practices. The expected hourly pay for this position, based on a 40-hour work week, is $33.00 - $47.00, totaling $68,640.00 - $97,760.00 annually, depending on geographic location and candidate qualifications.
