JOB SUMMARY
The Head of Data Product Management is a key leadership position focused on crafting, implementing, and enhancing our customer data product strategy from its inception. This role will define, develop, and execute strategies for our principal customer data products, ensuring they align with the dynamic needs of Highmark Health and our clientele. You will lead a dedicated team of product managers and analysts in specific customer data domains, pushing forward our Customer Data Product Strategy to enable downstream teams to deliver personalized, high-quality, and timely engagements. A strong leadership presence is essential for transforming strategic opportunities into actionable product plans, advocating for data quality and governance, and nurturing a data-centric organization.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee management responsibilities including hiring, coaching, performance evaluation, and ensuring department efficiency. Direct day-to-day operations, create policies and programs as needed, and may handle budgetary responsibilities.
Product Strategy & Vision Articulate a compelling product vision and strategy, effectively communicating it to stakeholders across the organization. Conduct market analysis, competitive reviews, and gather customer insights to identify unmet needs and innovate products. Leverage Human Centered Design principles to craft new products that provide enduring value for customers and the business.
Gain support for product strategy and roadmaps from key stakeholders.
Develop a comprehensive multi-year product roadmap aligned with company objectives and market trends.
Build relationships with stakeholders to encourage collaboration and influence business strategies, adjusting the product roadmap as necessary.
Product Development & Management Guide the product development process from ideation through launch, collaborating with cross-functional teams including engineering, design, technology, operations, marketing, and sales.
Define product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria, ensuring compliance with strategy, business goals, and customer expectations.
Manage the product backlog, prioritize features, and monitor progress against timelines, budgets, and value delivery.
Conduct user testing and gather feedback to enhance product usability and effectiveness.
Product Lifecycle Management Monitor product performance, analyze metrics, and identify enhancement opportunities.
Develop optimization, growth, and expansion strategies.
Oversee the product lifecycle from launch to sunset, ensuring seamless transitions for customers and collaborating with necessary teams throughout.
Team Leadership & Collaboration Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of product managers and analysts.
Deliver clear and engaging messaging that provides strategic connections and direction for teams.
Cultivate an innovative and data-driven environment within the product team.
Navigate teams through complex changes with positivity and maintain high morale.
Effectively communicate product vision, strategy, and progress to all levels of stakeholders.
Industry Expertise & Compliance Keep informed on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in healthcare to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
Perform other duties as required.
EXPERIENCE Required 7 years of experience in product management, strategy, operational improvement, or consulting, preferably within the health insurance sector.
5 years of experience in a managerial or leadership role.
Preferred Experience in crafting and executing data product strategies, particularly for core customer data products, within the health insurance field.
7+ years in developing and refining customer data product strategies that align with changing organizational and customer needs.
Strong technical capabilities with an understanding of data quality, governance, and data-driven cultures, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
SKILLS Thorough knowledge of membership, financial, economic, and competitive data.
Exceptional written, communication, and presentation skills.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Proven success in developing and launching innovative products that address customer needs and drive business growth.
Familiarity with the software development lifecycle, from planning to delivery.
Experience in developing business cases and calculating ROI for initiatives.
Deep understanding of the health insurance landscape, including regulatory frameworks and market dynamics.
Able to lead, inspire, and motivate teams, fostering a results-oriented atmosphere.
Experience in creating visual assets such as sketches, wireframes, prototypes, and customer experience maps.
