As the Associate Director of People Operations, you will play a crucial role in managing HR services for our U.S. and international HQ staff. You will ensure compliance with employment laws while aligning our practices with our organizational values and goals. Partner with management to enhance talent acquisition, employee relations, and performance management while fostering an inclusive environment that reflects HIAS and its core values. This position is based at our headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, or our office in New York, New York. We also welcome remote applicants from other states where we are registered, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia. The salary range for this position is $87,750 - $105,000. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: People Operations Strategy Assist in developing and executing people operations strategies that align with our organizational goals. Serve as a trusted advisor to managers on HR matters, including workforce planning and organizational development. Develop and mentor U.S. managers to enhance their leadership capabilities. Align closely with People Operations Leadership to ensure cohesive support across teams. Talent Acquisition and Onboarding Oversee full-cycle recruitment processes, ensuring equitable hiring practices. Collaborate with hiring managers to define job requirements and assess salary ranges. Maintain the integrity of our job grade structure and salary scale. Monitor recruitment metrics and implement strategies to attract top talent. Train HQ/US employees on HIAS recruitment policies and procedures. Work with People and Culture to enhance performance management frameworks. Ensure all recruitment practices align with legal compliance and organizational standards. Continuously improve onboarding processes in collaboration with team members. Employee Relations and Compliance Act as the primary contact for employee relations issues, facilitating conflict resolution and grievance processes. Ensure adherence to all employment laws and organizational policies. Identify and address gaps in standard operating procedures and the employee handbook. Assist in annual corporate insurance renewals and HR claims processes. Performance Management and Development Lead the implementation of performance reviews for all employees while supporting effective goal setting and feedback delivery. Coordinate with the Director of Learning and Development to identify training needs. Promote a culture of continuous learning and employee engagement. Implement initiatives that prioritize staff wellbeing. Other Duties as Assigned Facilitate effective communication between leadership and colleagues to enhance workplace culture. Provide accurate data for reporting purposes. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field; relevant experience may substitute for a degree. 5-7 years of HR experience, with a preference for 2+ years in benefits administration. Experience in nonprofit or humanitarian organizations is preferred. HR certification such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP preferred. Familiarity with HRIS systems and advanced skills in Microsoft Office. Excellent project management, attention to detail, and organizational skills. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Capacity to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
