Although many positions at Coinbase offer remote opportunities, in-person collaboration is essential throughout the year. We hold team and company-wide offsites several times a year to promote collaboration and alignment, and attendance at these events is fully supported.
In this leadership role, reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, you will oversee the Company's Financial Reporting function. You will be pivotal in our Finance department's risk management and reporting processes, ensuring consistent accounting policy application and financial reporting across the organization. The ideal candidate will blend strong technical expertise with exceptional organizational skills to navigate quarterly and annual reporting cycles effectively. You should possess a positive attitude and a demonstrable ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multitasking environment. This high-profile role is crucial for accurate financial reporting and for managing statutory and regulatory obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the preparation of all quarterly and annual SEC filings, adhering to U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations, including monthly balance sheets, income statements, and statements of stockholders' equity.
Coordinate the review and approval of filings with all relevant stakeholders, including the Disclosure Committee, Audit and Compliance Committee, external auditors, and both internal and external counsel.
Support Investor Relations through reviewing and quality-checking their public materials and preparing and filing the earnings release 8-K.
Create the accounting/finance segment for quarterly Disclosure Committee and Audit Committee presentations, presenting at the Disclosure Committee meetings.
Manage the SEC reporting calendar and oversee the reporting process to ensure timely and efficient collaboration across teams.
Collaborate with accounting policy experts to assess new FASB standards and relevant SEC guidance, determining their impact on disclosures.
Assist management with special projects and serve as a financial reporting resource for ad-hoc inquiries.
Mentor and manage the SEC reporting team across various time zones, primarily in an asynchronous work environment.
Enhance SEC reporting processes, implementing best practices by recommending and developing improvements, including streamlining processes.
Conduct financial reporting controls, ensuring thorough documentation of all work and reviews.
Qualifications:
Strong accounting foundation with expertise in US GAAP, SOX 404, and SEC financial reporting standards.
Proven ability to research and interpret complex accounting and disclosure regulations, effectively documenting conclusions.
A minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience, including current or recent senior-level SEC reporting roles.
A blend of private and public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
CPA or similar certification is required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, coupled with experience presenting to senior leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in financial institutions or fintech environments.
Experience leading technical accounting policy initiatives.
Knowledge of NetSuite is a plus.
