The Associate Director, Specialty Labs oversees the Clinical Immunogenetics Laboratory, the Pharmacokinetics Laboratory, and Lymphoma Genomics Laboratory and collaborates with investigators on developing new tests. Responsibilities include department operations and administration, coordination of individual laboratories and services, quality and regulatory oversight, financial management, and improvement projects, and with respect to the Lymphoma Genomics Laboratory responsibilities will include assay development, implementation and management of laboratory operations. All responsibilities require both individual accountability and collaboration with other groups and departments. Direct reports include managers of the Pharmacokinetics Laboratory and Clinical Immunogenetics Laboratory. With respect to the newly initiated Lymphoma Genomics Lab operations, the associate director will provide technical and operational oversight of genomic testing operation and clinical assays performance, assist in data preview and reporting, oversee quality control and proficiency testing, and monitor instrument performance and coordinate the maintenance. Oversee operations of thespecialtylaboratories, including the management ofoperational and strategicobjectivesand budgets.Facilitate operational decisionmakingand efficientutilizationof resources to providetimelyandaccuratetesting services. Ensure effective communication between the laboratories and internal and external partners, including clinical coordination; provide laboratory representation to multiple forums across Fred Hutch,Seattle Children’sHospitaland University of Washington partners, and clientsof reference services. Providesleadership and support to move laboratory initiatives forward; ensure laboratory interests are well represented incollaborative projects.Support implementation ofnew technologiesand instrumentation, including laboratory information management systems. Mentormanagers andprovide opportunities for leadership development. Ensure staff training, development, and orientation. Responsible for personnel issues, including hiring,performance management,continuingeducationand disciplinary actions. Work in collaboration with the Clinical Laboratory MedicalandScientific Directors, Lab Leadership,and QA Leadership to provide cross-departmental oversight and guidance for quality, safety and compliance with applicable standards, laws and regulatory mandates related toSpecialtyLaboratories. Partner with Clinical Labs Business Operationsand Financeto managebusiness workflows, strengthen financial and expense oversight, and support department priorities. Support the development and maintenance of adaptable laboratory systems to meet evolving clinicaland researchneeds. Collaborate on the strategic planning and implementation of infrastructure, workflows, and financial models thatfacilitateclinicaland researchactivities within the laboratory. Assist Principal Investigatorsandresearchadministration teams in aligning scientific goals with operational capabilities, fostering coordination and project success. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s degree in biological science, epidemiology, public health, business or equivalent Progressive clinical laboratory administrative experience with 5+ years as a manager or above. Excellent operational skills, with a focus onoperational improvement. Strong financial skills, includingproficiencyin budgeting, forecasting, strategic fiscal planning, and the use of decision support systems, benchmarks, and metrics to guide operating decisions. Solidtrack recordof effective management. Experience mentoringlaboratory professionals, developing staff competency, and creating a highly accountable team. Proven experience working effectively with clinical leaders in a multi-disciplinary environment. Effective communicationat all levels inanorganization with strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience with CLIA regulations as they are represented in the CAP and ASHI standards for laboratory accreditation. Experience with Washington State Medical Test Site regulations and applicable Joint Commission standards. Preferred: Master’s degree in biological science, epidemiology, public health, business or equivalent Experience with clinical research and clinical trials administered in the patient care setting. Experience in a large, complex ambulatory cancer center. Experience working in a laboratory offering reference services to external clients. Familiarity with clinical research processes and their application in clinical laboratory settings The annual base salary range for this position is from $142,251.20 to $237,057.60, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This position will be 1.0FTE/full-time, Monday-Friday.
