Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Assistant Dean and Director of Advising works collaboratively with the Klein College of Science Associate Dean for Undergraduate Student Affairs to oversee the student services functions for the college. The individual is responsible for the review of and decision-making for selected academic petitions, grade change requests, transient study requests, among other forms. The Assistant Dean and Director of Advising will work to develop and implement innovative student-centered advising practices that promote student engagement, retention, and timely graduation. The person in this role will collaborate with department leaders, academic advisors, and other faculty and staff on various academic-related matters and advising-related initiatives within the Klein College of Science.

In addition, the Assistant Dean and Director of Advising will provide oversight of the Office of Advising and Student Support which encompasses all professional academic advisors in the college. The Office provides academic advising support as well as new student orientation support, new student recruitment support, support for major and minor discovery, referrals, peer mentoring support, and support to special populations.

Provide strategic leadership for the KCOS Office of Advising and Student Support to ensure best practices for advising STEM students are being applied

Cross-collaborate with the college and department leadership as well as other on-campus or off-campus advising leaders

Provide student services and support to new and continuing Klein College of Science majors and minors.

Supervision of EHRA Advising staff and/or student workers.

Minimum Experience / Education Master's degree and have two to three years of experience leading an advising unit or advising-related program.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience

Experience applying academic policies and procedures to resolve student issues with consistent and fair judgments and to provide student services.

Experience communicating effectively across a wide range of audiences that include deans; department chairs; undergraduate program directors; academic advisors; current, new, and prospective students and families as well as other members of the University community.
