Sales Tax Auditor

to support the City’s revenue and compliance efforts. This position plays a key role in ensuring businesses operating within Arvada understand and comply with Chapter 98 of the City’s municipal code. As a Sales Tax Auditor, you will conduct compliance audits, analyze financial records, and work directly with business owners to promote accurate tax reporting and voluntary compliance. This role combines strong accounting expertise with communication, education, and customer service, helping foster positive relationships between the City and the business community while safeguarding public resources. Essential Job Functions

Plans and conducts tax audits of businesses to ensure compliance with Chapter 98 of the City of Arvada’s municipal code. Analyzes and interprets businesses’ financial records, determines compliance, communicates results, and develops recommendations to increase businesses’ awareness of and compliance to city codes. Assists with the collection of delinquent taxes. Maintains an awareness of business activity throughout the city to ensure that businesses are licensed and remitting taxes. Teaches educational classes to business representatives regarding taxation issues. Travels to and attends team and organizational meetings, training, events and activities and appropriately and professionally represents the department. Other Job Functions

May travel out of state to conduct audits at businesses’ headquarters for up to two weeks per year. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Proficient knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, internet, and e-mail. Maintains knowledge of Arvada audit program procedures, City of Arvada’s municipal code, Arvada tax guide, Colorado Revised Statutes– Colorado Department of Revenue, generally accepted accounting principles, and other related federal, state, and local laws. Possesses advanced knowledge of accounting principles, and the ability to analyze and interpret business records. Ability to clearly write tax guide topics, rules, regulations and informational interpretations. Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. License & Certification

A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required. Education Degree

Bachelors Degree (BA, BS, BBA) Education Major

Business or related field. Education Required

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Work Experience Related

Two (2) years of experience in accounting or auditing. Physical Demands

Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal. Minimal exposure to hazards are typically found in general office environment where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident. Exposure to routine office noise and equipment.
