Overview
Hawaiian Electric Company’s Reliability & Resilience Strategy Department in the Asset Planning & Strategy Division is hiring for a Professional manager role. The position focuses on measuring, assessing, developing, and updating strategies, priorities, and work plans to improve the electric transmission and distribution (T&D) system resilience across Oʻahu, Maui County, and Hawai‘i Island.
Responsibilities
External Resilience Initiatives & Opportunities
– Lead efforts on external resilience initiatives and grant application development for federal and other funding opportunities.
Work Plan Development, Prioritization, and Management
– Develop multi‑year work plans, determine project/program cost, value, sequencing, and priority, and manage ongoing monitoring, updates, and cost/benefit tracking.
Resilience Strategy Development
– Create and update strategies to enable the T&D system to anticipate, absorb, adapt to, and recover from disruptive events. Coordinate with stakeholders, integrate internal and external planning, identify constraints, set goals, analyze options, and secure approvals.
Industry Knowledge & Leading Practices
– Stay abreast of industry developments and best practices, represent the company in industry committees or task forces, and identify emerging issues.
General Support & Improvement
– Support the department and division in developing systems, processes, procedures, or methods that enhance operations.
Emergency Response Support
– Participate in company emergency response activities and prepare for such responses as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience Knowledge Requirements
– Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, science, or a related field; master’s degree preferred, especially an MBA.
Bachelor and master level candidates should have a thorough understanding of electric power system resilience, supply, transmission, and distribution systems, operation, probability and risk, utility information systems, financial and accounting principles, and regulation. General understanding of reliability, inspection, maintenance, and asset management is also required.
Skills Requirements
– Critical thinking, analytical modeling, computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, ERP/EAM, IRR, GIS), communication, presentation, project/program management, teamwork, conflict resolution, negotiation, personal time management, and interpersonal relations.
Experience Requirements
– Minimum 8 years of related work experience, preferably within the electric utilities industry. PMP® certification is desirable.
