Overview

About the Role: 15 Grade Level (internal use). Title: VP, Head of North America Sales . Location: Houston/New York. The role leads a team of experienced sales, relationship managers and commercial specialists and reports to the Chief Commercial Officer. This position will help Energy strengthen our brand presence with key customers across the Americas, develop an effective transformation plan including sales strategy, and collaborate across functions to achieve short-term and long-term objectives such as enhancing customer experience and achieving financial and synergy targets. The role involves transforming the business to stay relevant to tomorrow’s market needs.

The Team : The team comprises sales professionals across the United States and Canada. The environment is collaborative, performance-driven, and entrepreneurial. As a Sr. Commercial Leader, you will be part of the Global Commercial Leadership team and supported by colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of sales professionals to exceed assigned net-sales goals, customer experience metrics, and other tactical and strategic objectives within one of the world’s foremost commodity data, news & analytics providers.
  • Develop and execute in-depth account-based sales strategy including discovering needs, diagnosing customer problems, presenting solutions, renewing subscription agreements, and expanding new business.
  • Engage with senior customer counterparts, communicate the S&P Global Energy story, and set expectations for outbound activities, leading from the front as needed.
  • Proactively engage senior client stakeholders by presenting the S&P Global Energy value proposition, leading outbound outreach, and maintaining high standards of customer engagement.
  • Collaborate with Energy marketing teams and third-party channel partners to support customers and develop growth opportunities.
  • Maintain and improve customer satisfaction measured by Energy’s Net Promoter Score (NPS) and positive client feedback. Develop and implement retention strategies to minimize downgrades and maximize up-sell and cross-sell opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Business Lines, Product Management, Customer Experience, Marketing, Technology) and external channel partners to maximize revenue growth.
  • Set and manage sales goals, business retention goals, compensation plans, and travel budgets for team members.
  • Establish best practices for sales methodology and apply sound forecasting and planning.
  • Provide managerial direction, coaching, and the sales skills/tools the team needs to achieve targets, keeping the team informed of key trends and market demands.
  • Develop and maintain a united, world-class team that is highly engaged as measured by Energy’s VIBE survey and aligned with Energy and Commercial Culture values.
  • Serve as a Regional leader providing direction, coaching and advocacy for the Americas Region.

What We're Looking For

We seek a high-performing and transformational sales leader to help exceed revenue growth targets by putting the customer at the center of everything we do, understanding customer needs, and keeping the company competitive and innovative. The role requires collaboration within the Commercial Leadership team, change management, coaching ability, and a drive to succeed. Experience or strong knowledge of the commodity, oil & gas, energy, or related industries is preferred, along with a proven sales record and the ability to lead sales teams, develop and implement a commercial blueprint to drive growth in the North American market, and strong people-first management skills.

Basic Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in sales roles with at least ten years managing sales into energy, financial, or business-to-business markets, including P&L or similar financial responsibility. Proven record of regularly exceeding company sales/financial goals.
  • Strong consultative sales and negotiation skills, high integrity, and proficiency in all phases of the selling cycle from need creation to deal closure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

Key Skills

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex product information to sophisticated prospects and customers. Ability to speak confidently with clients at all levels, including C-suite.
  • Strong leadership with experience in team development and mentoring.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to drive business results.
  • Forecasting and pipeline management capabilities in a CRM environment; proficient with systems (Salesforce or equivalent CRM, MS tools).

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only)

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $176,000 to $360,000. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location.
