Overview

Under the general supervision of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Executive Director is responsible for establishing and implementing the mission, goals, and values of the YMCA within their community. This involves all aspects of building an outstanding staff (hiring, recruiting, and training); developing and working with an involved volunteer board and establishing the YMCA as an important force for local community development. The Executive Director is also responsible for growing the revenue, improving the operating performance management of their facility and achieving local fundraising objectives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 or more years overall leadership experience with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in an executive level/senior management position (YMCA or non-profit experience preferred but not required).
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • This individual must have a hands-on knowledge of effective operating approaches and be fully versed in managing a volunteer organization with diverse membership and community needs.
  • High level competency skills in the following areas are needed – member focused, results driven, problem solving, team focused, and influence.
  • Managerial and Consultative Skills Extensive experience in financial management, community development, membership and program delivery, empowering leadership skills, organization development, strategic planning, facility operations, risk management, managing diversity, and fundraising are integral to this position. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
