Given their importance, our API platforms are also a critical control point in managing API traffic within and across the enterprise and help protect against malicious actors or even accidental data leakage. This role will have general PM responsibility for all aspects of API management within Capital One, setting the standard for application integration excellence across the enterprise. This role advocates for the needs of the developer and the business. You will be responsible for identifying our highest leverage opportunities and ensuring our roadmaps are optimized to meet these business outcomes. The ideal candidate for this role is passionate about technology and deeply empathizes with internal and external customer needs, and is comfortable in conversation with engineering teams as well as stakeholders ranging from data scientists to senior business leaders.
Successful candidates will also demonstrate:
- Technical knowledge necessary to propose and influence new product and feature ideas, especially in the space of enterprise‑scale APIs, balancing developer enablement with governing and securing the API ecosystems
- Experience forming business strategy and translating it into enterprise‑grade software solutions
- Strong understanding of API and cloud operations, with the ability to articulate the opportunities and trade‑offs across an API management ecosystem
- Keen awareness of the latest developments, trends, and best practices in API management and application integration, with an incessant interest in understanding and adopting the latest innovations in the space
- Experience delivering products against plan in a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplined, distributed‑responsibility and often ambiguous environment
- Analytical and quantitative skills; experience using hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and develop business cases
- Demonstrated experience mentoring, empowering, and elevating product teams to deliver against business objectives and roadmaps
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior executives
- Strong work ethic as team player and a willingness to roll up one's sleeves to get the job done
As part of the Director, Product Management - API Platforms role, you will:
- Engage all stakeholders (Business, Engineering, Architecture, Risk, and Cyber) directly through a variety of channels to serve as the voice of the customer — identify new capabilities, define product features, and work closely with development teams to launch those features
- Set strategic vision and drive your team's roadmaps, and regularly engage and update Leadership and stakeholders
- Partner with engineering leadership across multiple teams, ensuring strong collaboration and alignment among your teams
- Own the product management practice within your organization, defining expectations and commitments and driving continuous improvement
- Operationalize product metrics for the products you own and build business cases for new investment
- Influence senior stakeholders to adopt your products and build buy‑in and trust by sharing out the consequent business impact

Basic Qualifications
- At least 7 years of experience working in Product Management
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining one of the following with an expectation that the required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date:
- A Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Systems or a related quantitative field)
- A Master's Degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Systems or a related quantitative field) or an MBA with a quantitative concentration
Preferred Qualifications
- People leadership experience of product management team(s)
- Experience with API platforms or API management in an enterprise environment
- AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or similar familiarity with AWS or other Cloud platforms

Chicago, IL: $209,500 - $239,100
McLean, VA: $230,400 - $263,000
New York, NY: $251,400 - $286,900
Plano, TX: $209,500 - $239,100
Richmond, VA: $209,500 - $239,100
San Francisco, CA: $251,400 - $286,900
This role is also eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long‑term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non‑discretionary depending on the plan.
