About WECT
WECT has been informing and entertaining viewers in southeastern North Carolina for 72 years. Live where others vacation! We’re in the rapidly growing Wilmington market, serving New Hanover, Brunswick, Columbus, Pender, and Bladen Counties that make up the beautiful coastal Cape Fear Region. WECT is the dominant broadcast station in the market with the most accessible local news on our broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms. Job Summary/Description
Are you obsessed with digital storytelling? Do you thrive when you’re not just breaking news, but breaking barriers on streaming and social platforms? WECT is looking for a Digital Content News Anchor/Producer who’s ready to own the screen on our digital platforms. This role blends digital reporting, producing, on-camera anchoring, and on-air Live Alerts/Breaking News updates for WECT’s Carolina in the Morning newscasts. Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following: Responsibilities
Command the digital screen: Be the confident, dynamic on-camera face for WECT’s live streaming newscasts, on-demand segments, and other digital programming. You\'re not just reading the news; you\'re delivering it with impact across all our platforms. Produce digital-first content: Conceptualize, write, and produce compelling digital newscasts and segments that are tailor-made for streaming and social audiences, not just adapted from broadcast. Think fast, create faster. Be the digital lead for breaking news coverage — front press conferences streamed by the station, perform interviews with reporters and field crews, and guide live digital coverage. Write accurate, concise, AP-style stories for WECT digital, covering a wide range of topics. Produce and edit video and photo content for digital platforms; create packages, social clips, and photo galleries to enhance coverage. Publish stories and multimedia using the station’s Content Management System; be willing to learn and follow SEO best practices to maximize web traffic and discovery. Manage and monitor WECT social media accounts (Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and more); post updates, engage with viewers, and respond to messages when appropriate. Use digital and social analytics to inform story selection, presentation, and distribution strategies. Contact public officials, law enforcement, PIOs, and community members to gather and verify information for stories. Collaborate closely with reporters, producers, anchors, photographers, editors, and meteorologists across the newsroom. Qualifications/Requirements
A digital-first mindset: You naturally think in TikToks, Facebook & Instagram reels, streaming headlines, not just traditional newscasts. On-camera confidence: You’re comfortable and charismatic in front of a lens, making immediate connections with digital audiences. Proven content creation chops: Whether it’s writing a snappy script or producing a quick-hit segment, you get it done in an entertaining, informative, and accurate delivery designed for digital and streaming viewers. The ability to thrive under pressure: Deadlines don’t scare you; they energize you. You can deliver high-quality work at lightning speed in the WECT Digital Studio. Strong news judgment: You know what matters to our community and how to package it for maximum digital impact. A collaborative spirit: You love being part of a news team that’s constantly innovating and adapting to the ever-changing digital news and streaming landscape. A Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field (or equivalent real-world experience that fits this unique position). Experience as a news producer, reporter, or anchor is a big plus, but if you’ve got the digital fire and on-camera presence, we want to hear from you! How to Apply
