1 Job Description And Duties Under the direction of the Chief Psychologist and the general administrative direction of the Deputy Director, conduct forensic evaluations, provide expert testimony, and provide consultation services in support of the DSH, SOCP. Attend mandatory trainings and meetings as directed by the Chief Psychologist. Frequent statewide travel from the incumbent’s home office is required, often with short notice. Timely report submission and self-directed time-management are essential functions of the position. Independently interview and evaluate inmates referred as potential Sexually Violent Predators by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation using a standardized assessment protocol established by the DSH to determine if the individual meets the statutory criteria. (Pursuant to WIC section 6600 and related subsections) Possess specialized knowledge in forensic evaluations, evaluation of sex offenders, relevant research literature, and sex offender specific risk assessment. Prepare and testify in court proceedings as required by the courts. Attend or provide expert training and program consultation to assist other evaluators on relevant clinical and forensic topics including offender assessment, diagnosis, risk assessment, and expert testimony. May be assigned: Additional forensic evaluations, job-related trainings, and consultation duties, and/or quality assurance initiatives. Participation in specialized quality improvement initiatives including quality assurance teams, clinical consultation teleconferences, peer review, quality improvement-related research, clinical projects, development of evaluation standards and templates, participation in stakeholder meetings, and liaison to outside agencies and hospitals. Minimum Qualifications: License:
Possession of a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology and possession of an earned Doctorate Degree in Psychology or equivalent field from an educational institution meeting the criteria of Section 2914 of the Medical Board of California's Business and Professions Code. Individuals possessing a valid license as a psychologist outside the State of California and who are eligible for licensure may take the examination; however, evidence of licensure is required prior to appointment in this class. Experience:
Five years of full-time postdoctoral, post-internship experience as a licensed psychologist in the practice of psychological evaluation and risk assessment and diagnosis of sexually violent predators or equivalent class of sex offenders. Expert testimony:
Forty (40) hours of expert witness testimony in high-risk sex offender cases or sexually violent predator cases. Training administered by the Department of Mental Health on expert witness testimony may be used to satisfy up to 10 hours of the required 40 hours as specified.
