Position Summary: The Community Engagement & Education Specialist at SEMHA, working at CLEARCorps, will support the Lead Education and Plumbing Assessment Project by conducting outreach, providing lead education, and performing in-home plumbing assessments in Detroit. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Specialist will be based out of the Eastside Detroit office, spending about 75% of their time in the field as part of a two-person team completing 10–20 home visits per week.

The role is ideal for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented individual with a strong background in community engagement, comfortable traveling throughout Detroit neighborhoods, entering homes, and engaging families through assessments, education, and community presentations at schools, faith-based organizations, and meetings, following program guidelines and state-provided training. Responsibilities

Recruit & assist program applicants through email, phone, mail, events, office hrs, in-home visits, & door-to-door outreach

Implement outreach efforts to increase program awareness and participation

Schedule and conduct in-home visits with approved applicants

Complete home assessments, interviews, documentation, and photos

Provide in-home lead poisoning prevention education to families

Encourage blood lead testing for children under six

Complete required reports and documentation

Perform other assigned duties as needed

Qualifications

Comfortable working with diverse populations while demonstrating patience, respect, flexibility, and confidentiality

Interest in or willingness to learn about lead poisoning prevention, healthy housing, and housing resources

Strong active listening, person-centered engagement, and customer service skills

Comfortable communicating in homes and at community events throughout Detroit

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail

Ability to clearly explain program information

Proficient in Microsoft Office and web-based data entry systems

Team-oriented and able to collaborate effectively

Additional language skills a plus

Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation is required

Education & Experience

1-2 years of community engagement experience, home assessments, or community education required in health, housing, medical, or other outreach programs.

Certification as Community Health Worker or degree or equivalent combination of education/technical training and experience in healthy homes education and/or assessments, lead education, community health issues, community engagement projects, public health, environmental science, social work, or related fields.

Salary & Benefits Salary: $23.00 hourly
