Pro Shop Assistant
The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) creates and coordinates services that enhance the quality of life for Cambridge residents. Driven by the needs of residents, DHSP's extensive services and programs touch almost every sector in the city: from newborns to senior citizens, from school-aged children to homeless families, from non-profit organizations to local employers. The Pro Shop Assistant is a member of the DHSP Recreation staff, responsible for management of a limited retail operation, bookings, tee times and clubhouse oversight at the Thomas P. O'Neill, Jr./Fresh Pond Golf Course. The environmentally sensitive and challenging public nine-hole golf course operating from early spring through early December located on part of the Fresh Pond Reservation and operated under the guidelines of the Fresh Pond Stewardship Plan. Essential Duties And Responsibilities: Monitoring, implementing and adhering to all goals, policies, and procedures set by the Director of Golf. Assisting golf professionals with checking in golfers and maintaining a properly functioning tee sheet and pace of play. Maintaining an organized stock room and golf shop cleanliness. Assisting with receiving merchandise and adhering to purchasing procedures. Assisting with maintaining proper inventory counts and levels. Assisting customers with the rentals of lockers, golf clubs, pushcarts, and powered carts. Working closely with Pro Shop staff to prepare for and conduct golf tournaments. Help operate the indoor golf simulator Provide warm and welcoming service to the patrons of Fresh Pond. Actively engage in and support the Department's Race and Equity Initiative. Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Golf. Minimum Requirements: High School education or its equivalent. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the game of golf. Ability to work in a high paced environment in customer service. Commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion. Physical Requirements, Working Conditions, Work Flexibility And Accommodations: Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. to waist height. Frequent bending, turning, kneeling and stooping. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures. Must be able to stand for extended periods. Repetitive motion required including computer entry. Must be able to operate a golf car in a safe manner.
