Director of Development
to lead and grow a diversified fundraising program. This role oversees major gifts, institutional giving, and frontline fundraising while strengthening donor systems, stewardship practices, and revenue strategy. The Director of Development will serve as a key member of the leadership team and partner closely with the Executive Director, Board, and program leaders to advance long-term sustainability and impact. Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy & Leadership Develop and execute a comprehensive development strategy aligned with organizational goals and growth plans Lead annual fundraising targets across individual giving, major gifts, institutional giving, and special initiatives Track performance against goals and adjust strategy based on data and trends Major Gifts & Individual Giving Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship Partner with executive leadership and board members on donor engagement and solicitation Build and strengthen a frontline fundraising culture across the organization Institutional Giving Oversee foundation, corporate, and government funding strategy Lead grant prospecting, proposal development, reporting, and relationship management Align institutional funding priorities with program outcomes and organizational strategy Donor Engagement & Stewardship Design and implement donor stewardship and engagement strategies that build long-term relationships Ensure timely acknowledgments, impact reporting, and donor communications Collaborate with communications staff to align fundraising messaging with brand and mission Systems, Data & Operations Ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and analysis of fundraising activity Maintain and optimize donor database usage, including reporting and data integrity Use data to inform strategy, forecasting, and decision-making Team & Cross-Functional Collaboration Manage and mentor development staff and consultants, as applicable Work cross-functionally with program, finance, and communications teams Support board development and fundraising engagement Requirements
Required Qualifications
7–10+ years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience Demonstrated success across:
Major gifts Institutional giving (foundations/corporations/government) Frontline fundraising and donor relationship management Experience in education, youth development, or mission-driven organizations strongly preferred Strong donor-facing presence with excellent written and verbal communication skills Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet revenue goals Technical & Systems Experience
Proficiency with donor databases and fundraising systems, such as: Raiser’s Edge NXT Salesforce (Nonprofit Success Pack or Nonprofit Cloud) DonorPerfect or comparable CRM platforms Strong working knowledge of fundraising metrics, reporting, and data analysis. Preferred Experience & Skills
Experience partnering with boards on fundraising strategy and donor engagement Comfort working in growing or evolving nonprofit environments Grant writing and reporting experience Strategic thinker with a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves approach Commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-centered philanthropy Benefits
