Overview

This is a professional, recreational management position assisting in directing the operations of the Leisure Services Department and facilities, to include: recreation centers, athletic complexes, parks and trails, and tennis/pickleball centers. Directs the operational efficiency of facilities and serves as the maintenance liaison to the City’s public works, general services, and utilities department, along with management of capital improvement plans, scheduling, and project management for the Leisure Services Department. Responsibilities

Assess needs and develops a capital improvement plan and implement short and long-term intervals of planning and project completion within budgetary allocations. Manages and directs the maintenance of public playgrounds in accordance with National Recreation and Parks Association standards; inspects for proper maintenance and oversees inspections performed by staff and evaluate for replacement and repairs. Supervises construction projects and meet with architects, engineers, construction firms, and other City departments. Writes and seeks public and private grants for funding of projects and serves as liaison to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs and other public and private agencies in seeking grant funding for the Leisure Services Department. Develops equipment and bid specifications for construction projects, proposals, and research options that would serve best to meet the needs of the public and Leisure Services Department. Studies local and national conditions and assist in the development of an immediate and long-range master plan to meet the recreational and facility needs of City of Dothan residents. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university accredited by an accreditation agency recognized by the U. S. Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in Recreation, Park Management, Public Administration, Sports Management, Physical Education, or closely related field is required. Ten (10) or more years of responsible municipal management experience directing public parks and facility operations, to include capital/project management and budget administration is required. One (1) industry specific parks/recreation certification required. CPRP (Certified Park and Recreation Professional); CPSI (Certified Playground Safety Inspector); CPR/AED certification; Trail Maintenance, Management or Master certifications are preferred.
