
KGO – Morning Studio Reporter / Breaking News Desk Anchor

KGO-TV/ABC7 News, the ABC Owned Television station in San Francisco, is seeking a smart, dedicated journalist to report live breaking news and traffic during the morning daypart from the studio. If breaking news happens in the morning anywhere in the world, this person will be covering it across ABC 7’s linear and digital platforms, including the ABC7 24/7 streaming channel. This role is a key part of the morning news team and will have fill-in anchor opportunities.
ABC7 News is committed to Breaking News and Weather coverage in addition to Building a Better Bay Area through solutions-based journalism. Candidates must be a passionate storyteller, brilliant multi-platform content creator, effective communicator and excellent teammate.
Applicants are expected to have a strong editorial background in a breaking news environment, along with proven experience using lightweight digital electronic cameras, to write and edit visually creative, memorable stories with active live reporting. A successful candidate will have a proven track record of developing contacts and sources and telling impactful stories. Our ideal candidate innovates everyday and enjoys experimenting with new technology and must be active users of social media for newsgathering.
This person must be organized and work well under pressure and constant deadlines. We want someone who brings a positive attitude every day and is receptive to feedback.
Responsibilities
Deliver live breaking news and traffic reports from the studio
Write and edit breaking news stories under tight deadlines
Shoot, write, and edit daily news stories for all platforms
Maintain an active and engaging social media presence
Serve as presenter and producer for the streaming news channel
Provide fillin anchoring as needed
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of experience anchoring/reporting in a top 50 market
Experience in breaking news situations
Knowledge of Bay Area traffic and transit, and previous on-air reporting experience required
Must have excellent writing skills, possess solid news judgment and ethical decision making
skills
Candidates should be able to shoot video and edit stories for linear and digital on non-linear desktop editing platforms
Candidates should have a solid resume reel showing superior on-camera presentation.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of the San Francisco Bay Area
Experience operating WSI Max Traffic a plus.
Bilingual is beneficial

Journalism or Communications degree The hiring range for this SAG-AFTRA role in San Francisco, CA is $90,948 to $160,000 per year. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. The role also has potential for additional compensation for overtime and early morning/overnight shifts.
