
Overview
A Portfolio Risk Solutions (PRS) Underwriter has responsibility to manage, monitor, expand, and optimize HSB’s portfolio products for assigned Client Companies, with a focus on achieving Profit and Growth targets. This role supports a key strategic initiative to profitably grow our business acting as a catalyst to new product implementations and performance management of existing client companies. The PRS Underwriter becomes the thought leader with Clients, bringing innovative solutions utilizing HSB’s data, products & services, and works to tactically deploy HSB’s capabilities to optimize and enhance client partnerships.
Responsibilities
Working closely with Product Managers and with oversight from the Underwriting Lead, deploy creative approaches for data analysis (including but not limited to diagnostic and predictive analytics) to understand and optimize product performance.
Use analytical approaches to design strategies for corrective action to ensure rate adequacy, appropriate price segmentation, and detection of leading loss trends; analyze claims, engineering, expenses, exposure data/profile shifts, pure premium trends, and third-party exposure data.
Deliver powerful client presentations (externally) to communicate financial results, data analysis, rate analysis, and emerging loss trends.
Serve as the technical expert for both Clients and the Client Integration Team.
Have underwriting binding authority to independently make underwriting decisions that drive the portfolio’s financial results and impact the business P&L.
Maintain product knowledge for all HSB PRS products with a focus on supporting products, services, and enhancements for each product; strive to achieve a deep understanding of coverage and communicate the value of products to existing and prospective clients.
Qualifications
Bachelors or equivalent work experience required.
5+ years of P&C insurance/reinsurance experience or other applicable relevant work experience required.
3+ years in underwriting preferred.
Demonstrated understanding of commercial and personal lines insurance and reinsurance coverage, concepts, principles, exposures and processes to drive profitable results.
Demonstrated ability to translate large data analysis into actionable decisions.
Demonstrated understanding of rate development (pure premium), price segmentation, and detecting leading loss trends.
Past experience with responsibility for achieving profit and growth targets for a book of business.
Demonstrated experience with negotiation and conflict resolution.
Exhibited ability to develop creative and unique solutions.
HSB Product knowledge and familiarity with HSB is desired.
