Role Overview
The Director of Digitization Services is responsible for leading the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of Heritage Werks’ digitization operations, including media conversion, photography, and advanced imaging. This role ensures high-quality delivery across all digitization projects while maintaining efficiency, scalability, and financial accountability. Reporting to the Managing Director of Archival Operations, this role partners closely with executive leadership, Client Services, and Business Development to support client delivery, operational excellence, and growth initiatives.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Capability Development
Direct, plan, and manage deployment of the digitization strategy across multiple clients
Evaluate, select, purchase, and implement digitization, photography, and imaging technologies
Develop new digitization and photography capabilities aligned with client needs and business growth
Stay informed on emerging digitization, imaging, and media conversion trends
Operational Delivery & Quality
Develop and manage digitization workflows focused on efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
Ensure 100 percent quality control across all digitization output
Oversee internal digital storage systems and asset management
Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
Maintain responsibility for equipment performance, maintenance, and upgrades
Photography & Imaging Leadership
Direct and schedule all photography projects, including on-site client photography and 3D photography
Establish and maintain standards for spatial resolution, image quality, and color accuracy
Oversee use of camera systems, lenses, lighting setups, backgrounds, and controlled studio environments
Guide the use of digitization machinery and imaging hardware.
Team Leadership
Manage departmental personnel and interdepartmental relationships
Conduct employee evaluations, training, coaching, and conflict resolution
Foster strong collaboration and accountability across teams
Client, Vendor & Project Management
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients with digitization projects
Partner with Client Services to provide project updates, participate in client meetings, and secure approvals
Serve as liaison with technology and media conversion vendors
Oversee all media conversion projects, including cost estimation, partner coordination, invoicing, and final cost reconciliation
Financial & Business Support
Ensure contract compliance and accurate reporting for profitability and efficiency analysis
Develop and maintain operational metrics, analytics, and reporting
Support Business Development by responding to inquiries, writing scopes of work, and estimating digitization projects
Assist with other duties as assigned based on operational or business needs
Requirements
Qualifications/ Required Experience
5–7 years of experience leading digitization, imaging, media conversion, or technical production operations
Demonstrated experience managing teams, technicians, and external vendors
Strong technical awareness and background
Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
Strong business acumen with the ability to align technical solutions to client needs
Excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills
Ability to excel in a deadline-driven, dynamic environment
Photography & Imaging Expertise (Preferred)
Hands-on experience with professional photography and digitization environments
Strong understanding of high-resolution imaging, spatial resolution, and quality standards
Experience working with camera systems, lenses, lighting setups, backgrounds, and studio workflows
Familiarity with digitization machinery, imaging hardware, and machine vision systems
Ability to evaluate and implement imaging and photography technologies based on quality and efficiency
Technical Environment
