Position Summary Habitat for Humanity of Orange County (Orange Habitat) is at a pivotal moment of growth, innovation, and increasing community need. The Communications Manager plays a critical role in shaping how we tell our story‑internally and externally‑while positioning Orange Habitat as a trusted leader in affordable housing.
This role is ideal for a strategic, hands‑on communications professional who can manage projects from concept to completion, translate complex housing issues into compelling messages, and engage a broad range of audiences—from donors and volunteers to homeowners, partners, and a rising generation of philanthropists.

Key Responsibilities Communications Strategy & Project Management
Develop and execute a comprehensive annual communications plan aligned with organizational goals
Manage communications projects from start to finish, setting timelines, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring on‑time delivery
Create systems for cross‑departmental information sharing to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent messaging
Track and analyze communications performance and use data to refine strategies
Content Creation & Storytelling
Write, edit, and produce compelling content across platforms, including:
Direct mail appeals, newsletters, and annual reports
Mass email communications and e‑newsletters
Website content, presentations, and donor‑facing materials
Capture and tell authentic stories of Habitat homeowners, donors, volunteers, and partners
Translate complex topics—such as mixed‑income communities, affordable housing policy, and shifting program models—into accessible, engaging narratives
Digital & Social Media Management
Manage and grow Orange Habitat's presence across social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, and others as appropriate)
Develop campaigns that engage a younger, action‑oriented audience and inspire giving, volunteering, and advocacy
Maintain and update organizational websites to ensure accuracy, usability, and brand consistency
Media & Community Relations
Build and maintain relationships with local media, partners, and community organizations
Pitch stories, secure media coverage, and prepare press releases and media advisories
Monitor press and social media mentions and coordinate timely responses
Maintain a shared library of photos, videos, and media assets
Brand & Visual Identity
Ensure consistent voice, messaging, and visual identity across all channels
Oversee production of branded materials, including event collateral, signage, apparel, and print materials
Manage sub‑brands and special initiatives to ensure alignment with organizational standards
Collaboration & Team Support
Collaborate closely with Development, other departments, ReStore, and leadership teams
Support communications needs for events, advocacy efforts, partnerships, and special initiatives
Supervise and mentor communications interns or work‑study students as applicable
Required Qualifications & Skills
Commitment to Orange Habitat's mission, values, and community‑centered approach
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field
5+ years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or related fields
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with attention to detail
Demonstrated project management experience, including managing multiple deadlines
Ability to work collaboratively across teams while also operating independently
Strong organizational, planning, and problem‑solving skills
Preferred
Experience in nonprofit, housing, or social impact communications
Familiarity with fundraising communications and donor engagement
Working knowledge of graphic design, photography, and video tools
Experience managing social media platforms and content calendars
Writing samples and references may be requested.
