Overview Job Description

– Legal Product Specialist. Full-time, Hybrid, New York, NY.

The Company: Checkbox is a Series A Sequoia-backed technology start-up with a mission to enable meaningful work for all. We built a no-code automation platform with the belief that digital creation should be accessible to everyone, not just IT teams. We work with in-house legal departments at companies including Disney, Elastic, J Frog, SAP and Coca-Cola. We recently launched an AI-powered Intake & Matter Management product – the “JIRA for lawyers” – as part of our broader goal to be the Legal Service Hub for how legal work is raised, allocated, managed, and resolved. Our culture is a core strength, and we value individual impact, trust, and continuous growth.

You’ll work alongside team members across the United States, Australia, and Asia, collaborating with high performers and Co-Founders in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. You can read about our core values here: https://www.checkbox.ai/core-values.

The Position At Checkbox you will join a small, tight-knit team of passionate, intelligent, and driven people. It is vital for us that our people feel a sense of individual impact, trust, and continuous growth while solving challenging problems to get things done. Our product team members are the innovators driving growth opportunities and outcomes. We’re always seeking smart, creative, and driven people to join our team to build a world-leading product.

As a Legal Product Specialist, you’ll be a legal domain expert embedded inside our product & implementation teams. Your role is to translate how legal teams actually work — their judgment, risk tolerance, workflows, and constraints — into scalable product behaviour, and help customers get AI to work for them quickly and effectively.

You’ll partner closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and implementation specialists to ensure our product is trusted, usable, and valuable for real legal teams. If you’re a lawyer who enjoys fixing problems, building systems, shaping tools, and turning messy legal reality into something scalable, this role is for you.

In This Position, You Will

Define and drive the long-term product strategy for authorization, identity, and access management

Partner with product, design & engineering during discovery, design, and delivery

Contribute legal domain insight to the team, as well as PRDs, UX flows, and AI behaviour

Help teams make pragmatic trade-offs between legal correctness, usability, and scale

Model legal workflows such as intake, triage, approvals, risk assessment, and outcomes

Define legal defaults, guardrails, and exception paths

Help design legal abstractions that work across customers and jurisdictions

Support complex customer implementations where legal nuance matters

Identify patterns that should become productised (not bespoke)

Help reduce time-to-value for legal teams adopting our platform

Pressure-test product experiences from a legal team’s perspective

Help ensure our AI features are interpretable, defensible, and trusted by legal users

Feed structured customer insights back into product strategy

About You

Qualified lawyer with 8+ years of experience

3+ years of experience working in-house (preferably across legal teams of varying sizes)

Passionate about technology & efficiency

Some experience in legal operations, legal tech or process improvement

Experience implementing legal tech or workflows

Interest & exposure to AI-enabled products & automation

Ability to think in terms of systems, workflows, abstractions & patterns

Comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-paced environments

Why Checkbox? We are an Australian start-up that has recently expanded into the US as our next growth market, and have seen a spike in growth since. We’re backed by reputable VCs including Touring Capital, Peak XV (Previously Sequoia India) and Tidal VC. We’re building a culture where everyone feels supported and empowered to do their best work and grow professionally and personally.
