
Recreation Specialist

Overview
Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for scheduling, planning, and conducting recreation therapy programs and functional skills classes for patients. This will include substitute coverage and evening and weekend activity coverage. Conducts rehab assessments and may be a unit team member. May oversee special events that include volunteers and outside groups. This position is for a variety of shifts. Performs related duties as required. Mandatory overtime is an essential function of this position. Applicants selected for employment must successfully complete a chemical urinalysis and breath analysis drug screening test. All employees are subject to drug and alcohol testing for probable cause as set forth in bureau and agency policies. Applicants must successfully complete a background check. Education: Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours with at least eighteen (18) hours in health, physical education, recreation, fine arts and/or therapeutic recreation from an accredited college or university. Education Substitution: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in the field of health, physical education, recreation, or fine arts may substitute for the required education. Licensure/Certifications: Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) OR certification as an Activity Professional Certified (APC) from the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP) may substitute for the required education.
