Social Media & Community Engagement Coordinator
Putney Student Travel, Putney, Vermont, us, 05346
Putney Student Travel is seeking a full-time Social Media & Community Engagement Coordinator to join its marketing team.
Since 1951, Putney has offered high school and middle school students the opportunity to experience and shape their world through summer travel, unique cultural engagement, seminars, friendship, and fun. Our educational and experiential summer programs take students to 30+ countries around the world, and they return home with new perspectives and friends, transformed worldviews, and the inspiration to take charge of their futures and be young leaders in today’s world.
We also offer academic, campus-based programs under the brand of Oxford Academia, and collaborate with partners including Harvard Chan C-CHANGE (Harvard Youth Summit on Climate, Medicine, & Public Health), and the Columbia University Climate School.
In support of these diverse program offerings, we’re seeking a creative, strategic, community-minded teammate to help strengthen our digital presence and deepen our engagement with prospective students and parents, alumni, and educators. This role requires a self-directed, organized, detail-oriented person who understands social storytelling, enjoys building community, and thrives in a small, supportive, and agile marketing team.
As Putney’s Social Media & Community Engagement Coordinator, you will:
Social Media & Content Creation
Create and publish engaging, on-brand content across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and emerging platforms for both PST and Oxford Academia. Develop and manage a content calendar aligned with program cycles, marketing priorities, and key events. Collaborate with designers, photographers, and program directors to source and curate compelling visual assets. Write short-form and long-form social copy that communicates our mission, alumni stories, faculty excellence, program highlights, and 75-year legacy. Coordinate content with messaging across the organization. Support paid social creative development and testing in collaboration with the Marketing Director. Community Engagement & Storytelling
Build and nurture community across platforms through active engagement, timely responses, and thoughtful conversation management. Develop processes to gather user-generated content, alumni testimonials, and parent stories. Strengthen alumni engagement through social-first initiatives, spotlights, and ongoing dialog with past travelers and families. Monitor comments on paid and organic content to ensure brand safety, escalate issues appropriately, and identify opportunities for positive conversation. Analytics & Optimization
Track and report on performance of all social content across brands. Test and refine content formats, CTAs, hashtags, storytelling styles, and community tactics to improve reach, engagement, and conversion. Monitor trends in education, student travel, and youth culture to guide forward-thinking content strategy. Cross-Functional Marketing Support
Collaborate in brainstorms, campaign planning, and strategy sessions to continually elevate our digital presence. Assist with website updates in WordPress, especially when social content intersects with news posts, alumni stories, or highlights. Support marketing emails (Mailchimp) with ideas, copy snippets, or content for targeted audiences. Contribute to general marketing projects as needed within a small, high-ownership team environment. Qualifications
Degree in communications, marketing, digital media, English, journalism, or a related field. Experience managing social media for an organization or brand (professional experience preferred, but strong portfolios welcomed). Demonstrated ability to create engaging content—strong writing, visual storytelling, and comfort appearing in or directing occasional on-camera content. Familiarity with social media management tools (e.g., Later, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite) and platform analytics. Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with design principles (Canva, Adobe tools, or similar). Comfort working in the WordPress CMS and Google Workspace (especially Docs and Sheets). Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to learn and embody multiple brand identities across Putney StudentTravel, Oxford Academia, and partner programs. A collaborative spirit, curiosity, and a low-key perfectionist bent. We recognize that not every applicant will meet all of the requirements listed above and encourage you to apply even if you don’t have experience with everything listed. This position is full-time and in-person at our headquarters in Putney, Vermont with excellent benefits. A hybrid schedule may be possible for the right candidate. The compensation and benefits package includes healthcare, of which the employee’s premium is covered 100% by the employer; 401k plan with generous employer-funded contributions (no required employee contributions); flexible paid time off, in addition to a company-wide four-week period off in the summer, and more. The salary for this position starts at $45,000, along with an extensive benefits package. Please submit a resume (with a link to portfolio or work samples, if you have one).
